Superglue the head back on, that should work.

Do you just glue the head back on (superglue?)? I have read many tutorials but they all seem to leave this part out. (I will be sculpting manes/tails back on.)

I'd kinda imagine so. I think you'd just glue the plug back in place, and once it's dry pop the head back on.

Actually the plug is discarded. There's no need for it (when doing sculpted manes). I can't imagine even when just changing out the hair you'd want to worry about gluing the plug back in. But from my experience doing custom sculpted ponies I just throw out the plug.

Since I'm an impatiant weekling, I use acetone to soften the glue.

XD I was a little stuck on removal, I have a hooked tool that fits into the heads, but when I was trying to pull it out I only got maybe two strands! I've had a, barbaric way of removing it. But it never fully works, and hurts alot :c

basically what I did was (after removing the hair and cutting the hair on her head) I poured a little bit of nail polish remover (with acetone) into her head and let it soak for a minute, then I took a small crochet hook that I know I'll never use and scraped it out (circular motions worked best, for me :3)

Angelkitty17 In reply to Angelkitty17 [2012-03-11 00:21:46 +0000 UTC]
I guess you could just pour plain old acetone into it, though I've never tried that (some nail polishes don't have acetone in them, so make sure it does)

Are the two-toned Pony tails (Like Twilight, Dash, or Rarity) seperated somewhat inside the pony? It's my first time customizing, and I'm using a duplicate Twilight as bait. I want to save the entire length of hair for other ponies, but I don't want to deal with strands of pink and purple hair flying around my room for the next couple months. If it's not seperated, do you have any tips for seperating it afterward?

I tried using tweezers to pull the hair out of the head.. But it's not working..however I cant use scissors because the opening in the neck is too small, my bait is a 4 inch version of blossomforth..(I think thats her name she's a pegasi). any suggestions?

I ran into the very same problem with my ponies. (A pegasi and an earth pony.) I ended up using a standard sized Phillip's screw driver and scraping the crap out of the inner head until I pulled all the plugs lose (they pop inside when you pry them lose) I then used a bobby pin to pull the hair closer to the neck hole and twesers to pull the hair plugs out piece by piece. It was very tedious but I got it to work. Hope this helps you ^^

In part one I had alittle trouble with Rainbow Dash (i'm using her)'s head. I couldn't get it off XD So I microwaved it o3o Well now that her hair is gone I can't wait til I get onto the next step : D

CustomAnon In reply to GoSuperSaiyan [2011-07-17 06:55:16 +0000 UTC]
Oh goodness! I don't think I'd suggest a microwave! You can use hot water to get off the head- dip it in quickly and then pull out. You can cut off the hair before taking off the head if that'd help, too. Or you can use a hair dryer on the head. Though I am a pretty small girl, I can usually pry off a pony head with a little strain.
I just don't advise using a microwave!

Lol well I'm really weak XD But i was sure not to let her melt because that would suck D: I think next i'll do this to Rarity....But I need that dang acetone that I plan to get tomorrow.

It was a little hard getting the hair out once the pony as bald, but one method I used was this:
Fill the pony head with water, then shake the head with the neck pointed down. The hair should have collected when wet and gather near the head-neck base. Yay!

I'm going to try using a toothpick to get the hair from the other side because the bait I'm using is tiny [haven't because I can't find my toothpicks], would that work?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
CustomAnon In reply to PrincesTomboy [2011-07-03 20:11:40 +0000 UTC]
Mm, probably not as well- the hair is pretty hard your toothpick will probably break. What bait are you using? Sweetie belle? if you have a rat tailed comb (fine tooth comb with metal handle) that should work, anything thin and long and metal is good.

PrincesTomboy In reply to CustomAnon [2011-07-06 18:34:35 +0000 UTC]
Actually, it was a mcdonalds thing, and I managed to pull the hair out using some surgical forceps [or however you spell it] my dad let me borrow. The toothpicks didn't even fit!

CustomAnon In reply to PrincesTomboy [2011-07-06 21:03:35 +0000 UTC]
The G4 or the G3? I didn't even think of suggesting forceps, I don't have any, but yes that is a very good way to do it. Glad you got it figured out!

What I do is to cut the tail right off at the body, then pull the head off and cut out the head plug. The length of tail left in the body can then be tipped out or pulled with tweezers if it's stuck

CustomAnon In reply to EpicTwo [2011-06-10 06:50:52 +0000 UTC]
The tail removal is really simple. The hard part is getting out the plug. Anything that can get in and pry out the tail will work. Try a crochet hook maybe? YOu can also try sticking something like a bamboo skewer into the tail hole to press the tail contraption up, where you can grab it easier

i'm so glad i found this tutorial!!! but i have a strange question: if i want to reuse the same hair for my pony but rearrange it, will i still need to cut it all off? or is there anyway to take it out of the head without cutting it off? i'm trying to fix up my rarity toy to be a bit more accurate by rearranging where the redviolet and purple hair are, and i'd love to be able to take part of the hair out without taking all of it out, but i'm not sure if that's even possible...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
CustomAnon In reply to toughtink [2011-04-17 01:44:07 +0000 UTC]
You can. if it was any one but rarity I would just suggest cutting and tying off the hair, but since Rarity does have all the length of the FiM toys, I would suggest wetting the hair and using needle nose pliers to take it out. Keep it wet and slick and try not to pull out too much at a time. once you get a portion of the hair out at the very bottom, you might be able to tug it more gently from the outside.
Swiping the inside with a little bit of acetone might help, too.
