These are the first character concepts for my graphic novel idea. I still need to change their faces a little bit until they look how they do in my head (Mostly Rye's face, and Lucille's hair.) So, I'll give a brief description of the characters from what I've thought of so far.We'll start with Rye because he will be the main character. He comes from a race of faun/gypsy-like people, but has been orphaned for more than half of his life (he's about 13-14 when the story starts). So he's learned to survive on the streets, pickpocketing, stealing food, etc. He's curious and has a nose for trouble, but he's also quite clever.
Lucille is a Rusalka, a kind of undead water-demon. She was once a young girl, but during one extremely harsh winter her family was starving and her father got desperate. One night he took Lucille (the youngest) out for a walk and drowned her in a well.He afterwards hanged himself in shame. She became a Rusalka, who can only come on land as long as she has her comb.
Then there's the dog, he doesn't have a name yet, and I'm not sure if he'll actually be part of the story, but I thought he would help round out the group. I can't decide between the names Nero, Milo, and Titus. Anyone have any opinions? Any feedback at all is really helpful to me.
(Also, I have an idea for the title but its a secret for now. You get to know that it will be abbreviated as SGtH though, if you feel like guessing)

The names fit perfectly. I love their backstories. Do you have any personality traits for any of them? I think Nero fits the dog best of three.

I am so glad that you enjoy my art!
I have been beginning to develop and understand their personalities a bit. Lucille is fun-loving and adventurous and seemingy always upbeat and positive, though due to her tragic past some things can trigger her and push her into dark and brooding moods.
Rye is more cautious and reluctant to leave what he is familiar with, and is also not really a people person while Lucille loves attention. Rye attracts trouble, much to his annoyance, and most people dislike him or cast him off as a criminal because of all the petty stealing he has done. In reality though he cares a lot about people and is really sympathetic to others.
I haven't really been able to develop them more recently but I still have their story floating around in my head and a storyboard started. As for Nero- which seems to be the favorite name for the dog- I think we comes in later in the story, and I'm not really sure about his personality yet other than just sweet and goofy and loyal.
I've actually never done a graphic novel before but I would really love to learn by doing this one! I think it would be a really great experience

Loving these designs, especially the dog! I personally think that either Milo or Nero suit the dog. I love the anatomy on its face- Bull terrier dogs are so hard to get right. I love that you draw your characters with different shaped faces as well, as opposed to just the same face. Great designs. They look like interesting characters! Thanks for faving my OC ref!

I am still experimenting with their designs to see what works best for them, and what I will be able to draw consistently.
And I just love the shape of bull terrier's faces, so fun to look at and draw.

Also if you are still deciding the name of the dog i think Nero is good because
A. The roman emperor
B. In modern Greek Nero (Νερο) means water and since she is a water demon-ish kinda thing i think it suits

oh man okay i love these characters and i keep coming back to this picture because i've been thinking a lot about graphic novels lately (i'm about to work on a webcomic?) and i definitely started a short story involving a young girl and a satyr/faun. and aughhhh that dog is so cute.

I'm thinking of posting mine online, but hopefully also printing hard copies if it becomes popular enough. I think fauns and young girls make awesome characters too. I kind of was inspired a lot by Pan's Labyrinth.
