I think she might be a superhero, which is why she never shows up to these big events. She's actually off saving the world.

No they forgot her just like they did during Canterlot Wedding, therefore the characters forgot about her too.
Face it, she was abused as a child and it continues on into today.

Well, of course they had to have Luna show up late for the Canterlot Wedding. If she arrived during the battle, the entire city would be covered in the blood and twitching severed body parts of her enemies. And, they couldn't keep a G rating if one of their characters is magically severing the heads of terrorized changelings begging for mercy.

They need Luna post-it notes all over the studio to remember Luna when developing a Luna centric episode.
