EPIC Im sure that son of sanguinus put up a good fight and hes there next to his primarch at the right side of the emperor (lay off, when it comes to the grim realities of 40k im an idealist)

Correct me if I'm wrong, Angel, but it looks like this Blood Angel put up one hell of a fight...His mag is unloaded, he bares no signs of a headwound, his armor is shattered in several places that wouldn't necessarily be lethal...I'd say he made his last stand, wounded and leaning against the wall until about three shots ripped through his chest; destroying the two hearts that give Space Marines life, and tremendous resilience.

"...We are the Space Marines...For every one of us that falls in battle, one-hundred enemies will die..."

Good drawing, Angel. A healthy reminder that Space Marine's may the most elite warriors of the Imperium, but they are still susceptible to the risk of dying or being mamed in war.

this does make a good contrast to most of the space marines pictures out there, but I have to say though who ever took him down wanted to be sure.

It comes to show that even with a load of genetic engineering, the Space Marines are still just humans in the end, fraught with flaws and ordeals.

Looks how one would think a Space Marine would look in death. Not in pain, just sleeping. He died for the Emperor, after all.

"Drink deep of victory and remember the fallen"
Inscription above the entrance to the Blood Angel's Hall of Heroes.
I think that is rather fitting for this excellent piece of art.

Nah man, what you don't see off screen are about 50 dead chaos marines. That one in the background is the soul survivor

cheers hey, i think its cause the whole depiction of the blood angels being "Angelic" (Blond hair fair features) adds to a more poetic tradgedy when depicted as fallen..... also the whole black curse and red thirst thing makes for more of that too....

theres a certain irony here that i cant pick up, something along the lines of fighting to defend your primarchs honour and falling at the hand of the Chaos gods exactly like Sanguinus(or however is spelt) falling by the hand of Horus, great picture, they really should show that space marines arent invincible more often.

That is true, the general publication or story whichever portrays space marines as being unstoppable, however in more recent novels (Eg: space wolf trilogy, uriel ventris trilogy) they are showing that the marines have human emotions and fears to them.

I have actually read somewhere in a publishment of which i cannot remember that space marines are solely created to fight and die.

It is very rare that we hear of a space marine dying of old age.

ive read all 3 books of the Uriel Ventris saga(standard requirements for Ultramarines players), and it shows that even noble space marines can become frightened and in Dead Sky Black Sun it shows that some can even subcome to the hand of Chaos, as shown by Vaanes

yes me too, i hope a 4th book come out as there was alot of loose ends, like what happened to Uriel Pasanuis and the Unfleshed, did the train eat them or did it take them back to "safe" space, what happened to the attacking Warsmith, what will honsou do know, and many more

Yowza, this is unusually cool. FOrget me asking if you are a w40k fan, you obviously are (like me). nice seeing fellow artists painting this kind of stuff online.

Agreed about how marines are portrayed as invincible.

in a recent series of books, "Space wolf" (A archive about the young wolf lord ragnar blackmane, before he was a wolf lord) the space marines fear death and they are portrayed as superhuman yes but still mortal.... and i think they should do that more....

The shading on his face is great. He looks appropriately pale and splotchy. Again, the line work is fantastic. The background could stand to be a little more detailed, but it's a great picture.
