What I really love about this is the way that such a shallow jar is made to look as dangerous and murky as the bottom of some horrendous algae-thick lagoon. Bravo!

Now if only the movie industry could achieve this level of realism.
I used to make a game out of picking out what's computer generated and what's not,
but now it's all just so obvious I don't bother pointing it out.

When I looked at this I thought it all was real. Then I thought maybe the octopus was fake.
I was shocked when I read everything was created. The only part I even guessed on at a glance was the octopus.
Kudos. Major, major, worship-level kudos.

That is VERY impressive work; did you build the meshes from the ground up, or were some of them existing 3rd party objects?
And how did you get such realistic textures -- is that a feature of 3DS Max? I use Poser 7 (with PSP7 for post-work) and it has nothing that comes close to that level of detail and realism!
