i've been working on this dumbass four panel sketchpage for the past week now. its posting time goddamnit >
(I also have more traditional sketches of Discord to post. on lined paper. from school. because honestly what else could I possibly draw other than Discord while at school. i definitely draw him too much. but i don't give a shit)
anyway, so i started headcanoning
here's more about Sunburst being a failed catalyst.

I said before that he has little wing nubbins that he hid under his cape. here they are
he only ever feels comfortable showing them to ponies he trusts. only a few ponies have ever seen them. not even his mother (he developed the scars after he moved away from home). they stick out a little bit, as is shown, and are incredibly sensitive to touch. they can get really itchy sometimes. he tends to put heating pads on them when winter comes around, or whenever he's stressed and needs a break. there are bones under the skin, and a bit of muscle. when his emotions run high, the stubs tend to wiggle a little bit, kind of like a pegasus flapping their wings when they're excited, except without the actual wings.
while he was being reformed, Sombra had no earthly idea what these scars meant or what they were from. he was entirely clueless. his mind tried its best to attribute the barren flesh to a recently-healed wound. a wound that was itching and raw and sensitive, no doubt (and he was right, for the most part). Sombra licked his exposed shoulders quite often, leading to Sunburst entirely shutting down because he had no earthly idea what Sombra was doing or how to stop him. even after he was reformed, the king still does it.
(Sombra's mane is short because after he was freed from his imprisonment, his mane and tail were so terribly mangled that they had to be shaved off. he forgot personal hygiene after a while, anyway, so it ended up being for the best)
also, what I imagine Sunburst would look like as an alicorn. not too terribly creative (his wing pattern reminds me of a beach ball XD) but still, just a general idea.
and, on the bottom, what Sunny calls his beloved nub caps (officially titled 'wing caps', but that name got boring after a while)
as I discussed before, Sunburst is an alicorn without wings. alicorns are titled so because they contain a significantly larger amount of magic when compared to an ordinary unicorn, and use their wings as storage for this magic. however, seeing as Sunburst's body has no extra space for this magic to go to, it often seeps or even explodes out of his wing stubs in dangerous outbursts that happen randomly. his wing caps were designed as a gift from Celestia when he was younger to help contain this magic and prevent outbursts from happening. they look kind of odd, but he's grown oddly fond of them, and even has a couple signatures on them from lifelong friends, like how one would get their cast signed if they got injured.
(and no, he doesn't have a cutie mark. because I forgot. maybe someday i will rember.)
