Description
These ships were designed just before the Dominion war, though they did not go into production until many years after. Their purpose was to provide mobile command and survey platforms in deep space. Originally, the idea was to send some through the Bajoran wormhole, as well as to the edges of Federation space. Just over 300 meters in diameter, they are built more like a space station, but maintain the functionality of a starship. It was thought that by making these mobile platforms, they could be easily moved in case of conflict without the worry of having to abandon them. They are equipped with defensive phaser arrays and powerful shields able to be projected out to protect nearby ships as well.

Due to their design, they are vertical ships, with Deck/Level 1 on top/at the front.

Here you can see the two lower domes between the nacelles. One dome contains the shuttlebay and the other main engineering along with the deuterium tanks. The engineering dome can be jettisoned in an emergency.
