here's a dream I had

This is the second time I have had this dream, I’m at a dinner party in a dark room and I sit next to Bill Cosby, We talk about animation and he draws with a pencil that is half orange water colour and the other half is graphite, he draws anthromorphic smiling lion heads and soggy brown maps. I ask him how he lived such an excellent life and he said something about getting an education, being balanced and having a wide network of friends. He takes out a monitor you can draw on that’s a little larger then his hand, and shows me the weather channel, he guides the stylus over the screen where it shows huge pop corn clouds covering the map of the world quite fast, at the time I think he’s just putting the machine on fast forward. I wanted to ask him if he really did tell Eddie Murphy off but I didn’t have the guts.

A woman who seems to be one of the heads of the party leads me through a cellar, and we journey under water through a dank then gradually brighter corridor, she points to a fish and says that she likes that fish, she has never scientifically tested it but she says it has a nice shape and is therefore healthy, I notice that one of her breasts is hanging outside of her dress in the water.

We end up, and she disappears in what seems to be a twenty, to thirty story hotel and people come in with news that there’s a flood, later on I hear that whales are causing huge waves that are raising the water level till it reaches our building.

We group together and race about looking for thing to eat and to use to shore up the doors, walking through endless corridors, no rooms, grabbing things, I take some copper coloured metal rectangles to throw at people, a little girl rebukes me when I test one and it flies close to her.

I’m at the bottom floor of the building and we’re shoving plastic bags under the doors when we notice people standing outside, staring at us through the glass doors of the entrance, after much discussion we say that they can be let in if they bring food, but they say there is no food, that some other they took it all, one saying that it was because they were castilleans, I replied that I had no idea what he was talking about, I talked to the people inside, saying that we could eat them later on, at any rate they were let in grudgingly, nobody had seen any food yet but the were sure there would have to be rations. A little later a boy and his dog came to be let in, we said that he could come in but his dog was a liability could not, he choose to die outside instead, I watched him. I think that the real reason I let those people in was that one or two of them always seemed to be shining out of the corner of my eye.

A blond girl in shorts, narrow twins in black, even the boy who hated Castilleans I let in everyone because of those three.

Outside of my knowledge a helicopter came down on the roof of the building and asked the people who noticed it to find as many other people as possible so they could be saved, they came back with no one and refused to leave the craft, one of the pilots went to get others but each person or group that he found refused to help find anyone else and hung around him like stray dogs, eventually he found enough, or his time ran out and they left with out anyone the wiser.

I woke up then: but I will still finish the story, the water rose so that we could touch it by leaning over the walls of the roof and we all, several hundred of us gathered on the roof and top floors of the building. We felt the building be ripped from its base by the current, I swam for a while, the water wasn’t fatally cold, but my limbs froze from lack of food and too much exertion and I sank, blurry dancing shapes in the blue, pale smug faces in the dark.
