I really love the tree texture, really well done, the curvy lines give such nice depth. Along with it the lilies also look really nice , i would totally try more of this ink like type of art. I could link you some deviants that could give you a lot of practice ideas. I must say that the bottom part is taking mostly all the focus.. I have no idea how you could've changed it or done it otherwise but the drawings is a bit too dark at bottom compared to the top. Maybe some sweet branches at top would've made it more.. equal.  I'm not a fan for humans but she gives a weird feeling of hope and unsettlement .. i like it   I don't know though if this is how you wanted to draw her or you just started with the legs and lost proportions along the way. I totally can realize that you have started from the bottom of the drawing, right? I mean.. you didn't lose proportion per say , the white clashes too much with the blacks. that's the problem. And we can imagine the background underneath her being a bit more obscure but that would still give too much of a "white" splash..

Anyway,it's always always hard to have a very balanced black-white picture when you're working with ink-like brushes (or .. ink)

Hope this helped a bit...

What amazing feedback!  Thanks so much for taking the time to write out such a great, thoughtful comment - it means a lot to me

The composition was deliberate in that the bottom section of the piece is darker than the top, although the circle at the top was a last-minute addition (it was originally just a single line but it looked wrong once everything else was drawn out) and admittedly it's a shame it's going off the top of the page.  My thinking is that the bottom part of the piece represents a 'beautiful darkness' - a 'bad' place which feels good to be in, so it's dark and there are pretty flowers and vines to tempt you in.  The top part is the light, the 'good' place - something to strive for, but that feels difficult to reach and always just out of sight.

It's interesting to hear that the balance doesn't work for you though, I'll make sure to think about that in future rather than concentrating so much on the thought behind the piece (especially if I'm not going to explain it in the artist comment! )

With the proportions on the figure, I wanted to go semi-realistic but did push it a bit to try and get a feeling of...strain, I guess?  I can't think of the right word!  I wanted to create that feeling that the dark place is known and comfortable, but there's a desperation to reach towards the light - a sort of push-pull situation.

It's really interesting to hear your feedback though, and I'll definitely keep it in mind for future pieces.  I will certainly be using my pens again (they're just normal technical drawing pens rather than fancy/proper brush ones) and look forward to hearing your feedback on more of my stuff.

Thanks again, your comment has really given me a lot to think about - I'm excited for the next piece now!

I'm so happy you accepted my .. points of view, I do understand yours now and it does make it indeed better,  I mean i haven't really thought of the black-white  safe space- unsafe space .. I am sorry..

I like that you added the circle,so you clearly kinda see what i am seeing too, but now that i have more information from you related to this black-white thing I totally get what you did here and i like it a lot

Promise I will try and give a reasonable feedback every time, but.. keep in mind I'm no real artist and I got no arts school so I might be wrong in many cases... Even if art is really relative i still think of it as having a lot of math involved and that sometimes we can trick the brains into thinking our works are amazing when actually we just have a perfect geometry in it

Anyway.once again. the tree is gorgeous and I wish i could see... a huge forest on a really wide canvas you would rock !

Don't be sorry, I knew that by not doing a write-up I was leaving it to the viewer's interpretation I just didn't feel ready to explain it until your comment (I may update the deviation description at some point).

I very much look forward to receiving your feedback, it's always lovely to hear what people think of my work even if it's more of a critique, as there's always so much to learn from another point of view!  And don't worry about thinking of yourself as 'no real artist' because a) you are an artist and b) I don't only create my works for artists to look at  All viewpoints are appreciated as I want all sorts of people to see my work!

Hmm, I will keep the forest idea in mind as a possible future project

Thanks again for the time you've taken to write such long comments, and have a great day!

Yo the thing is i sometimes forget about the "feels" and usually critique the technical part... which is not good... I will remember this to not do this.
Well...in my defense there's not many that think about the final message of their artwork  but .. i am glad we talked, now I know your art is very personal and touching

I'm wishing you a lot of inspiration for your next projects
Oh and a wonderful weekend
