Description
Technique: I found this butterfly at the beginning ofΒ the day, a little more hungry than afraid of me. I held my finger close to the critter and waited for it to start eating the artificial nectar I had on my finger, then carefully coaxed it into climbingΒ on. Took me three tries, and I was surprised that I pulled it off. Later in the day when the butterfly is casually feeding I don't think it would have worked.Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F11, 1/125, ISO 200) + a Canon EF-S 60mm macro lens with 25mm of extension + a diffused MT-24EX (flash head "A" set as the key and "B" as the fill, both on the Canon flash mount). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held.

Looks like it's having a good back stretch while having it's breakfast. I absolutely adore your close up insect/bug photos. Thanks for posting them and having the patience to capture these critters.

I do this quite often. They are sooo peaceful if they relaize that your finger is full of delicious honeywater ^^

Everything looks different when it's magnified.

And I thought it was in need for mineral salts. Beautiful work.

Thanks
I explain my technique because I'm not trying to pretend that I'm something that I'm not, and so that everyone knows that they can do it too. But funny thing about your comment is that I do add some butterfly nectar mix to the sugar syrup that I make, so maybe it was in need of mineral salts

Well, one butterfly sat on me in the mountains. I was after long walk up, so I think it wanted a bit of my water and mineral salts.

Very common, and it usually is because they need salt.
