I baited this honeybee to get her to slow down and let me get close. Shot at almost 3x with a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens.This image was chosen by National Geographic for their Daily Dozen in the 4th week of August 2009.

Your photos give a lot of inspirations. I have the same equipment and I even diffuse the flash the same way as you, but i never captured a photo even close as good as is yours. This summer I must face my fears of gedding needled and try to capture something similar

I don't like bugs personally, but this is just... Wow. It's beautiful!
I didn't know honeybees had hair on their eyes!
It's really interesting from a scientific standpoint, as well as aesthetically pleasing!
And I can now see why pollen irritates my sinuses. It looks like little spiky balls!
