Sorry dude, but working with bait is quite uncool.
Spoils it for me.
I know that there are people that freeze their subjects, etc,
but it still spoils a otherwise phenomenal picture for me. :/

There's no other way to take that kind of shot -the ladies simply will not let me get close otherwise. FWIW: I'm holding onto the flower petal with my left hand, and bracing the lens on that same hand to keep the scene steady. The end of the lens is less than 2" from the honeybee. Go outside on a warm summer day and try to get that close without baiting the insect...

everyone has some kind of opinion. it may be quite uncool to you but im sure many other people its not all that bad a deal. the opinion should be about the art not how he worked with the bee right? i mean if he didn't tell you about the bait then you wouldn't be so down on him i would think i think its pretty neat to see something like this, i know insects are hard to shoot so give him a break lol not like you had to bait the spider in your gallery since they sit still. not tryin to start a fight or anything i just wanted to express my opinion too

Animals are always a bit of a problem.
A friend got quite a view problems with a certain animal photography society
because he used bait and bird whistles for his bird pictures,
such methods are not ok for everyone.
The national geographic photo-guides also advice to use such methods, i know about that,
but then they also don't care if you massively photoshop your pictures.
Photographing bees doesn't have to be very difficult,
the best way to do this is to look for a flower,
on which they land quite often, then you just have to setup and hide your camera
and work with a remote control.
This way it takes longer and it's more frustrating, but it works.
Methods like this got many upsides, you do not disturb the animal,
and you will be able to capture a more natural behavior.
We live in a time in which such things actually matter to some customers,
so this also could mean that you can get more money from your pictures.
I'm not really criticizing the picture, or his abilities,
like i said - it's a great picture, without a doubt and a very well deserved dd,
but i criticize his methods, since i can not agree with the use of those.
Sorry if i upset you, i thought i put a more serious note to this,
instead of just posting the usual mindless "nice picture" comment.

lol haha you didnt upset me at all sorry if it seemed that way ^^' i dont agree with the photoshopping of the pictures either it should be natural. ive seen people make macro effects with photoshop and it just seems really fishy. but i totally get ya,. its just different opinions like i said lol.

Alright, I've seen some amazing macros, but this trumps them all. Never knew that bees had hairy eyeballs...
And that proboscis! It's so... lubricious.
