Description
I baited this honeybee to get her to slow down and let me get close. Shot at almost 3x with a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens.This image was chosen by National Geographic for their Daily Dozen in the 4th week of August 2009.

I consider myself a huge fan of macro photos of insects and this one of the most eye-catching one's I've seen. I'm also amazed at how this is 3x and you managed to achieve as much DoF as you did.

Man, I have never seen a honey bee this close before, I only see lots of them with normal vision The pollen looks like sticky balls.

This is just absolutely amazing! You've shown us a glimpse of what normally is a mystery, and in such beautiful detail. Pollen on the eye hairs is pretty cool.
