Description The critter went back to sleep while I was shooting it, and judging by the time of the year and all the damage visible in it's eyes I'd say that it's getting old.

Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F16, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (around 4x) + a diffused MT-24EX. This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held.

Technique: Found it sleeping in my Lavender and I carefully transferred it to a daisy when it woke up.

This shot, like most in this user's gallery, is absolutely stunning. The amount of detail revealed on the subject is astounding. It's amazing how much we never stop to think about. You can even see scratches on it's eyes - that is one hell of a macro shot.
The composition is very interesting. Though not in full view, it reveals enough wake interest in the viewer. Moreover - this is a shot of a sleeping bee, which is actually quite amazing.
The bee's pose itself is intriguing, as it seems to have bitten down on what I gather to be a plant of sorts.
The complete amount of information that this shot provides should suffice quite enough regarding the quality of it's execution - it's a rare shot, interesting pose and reveals loads of details of a simple bee - details that one might never stop to think about in his life time.
This is an exceptional piece that deserves the attention not only of photographers and macro enthusiasts, but that of every human being. Thank you for sharing!

Absolutely stunning shot! How... how does it not wake up while you shoot it? How do you not get stung? Your whole gallery is amazing, thanks for sharing!

Thanks

I'm shooting early in the morning when it's cool, and most solitary bees need the heat of the sun to get active. As an added bonus I'm pretty sure that it's a male, so it doesn't have a stinger.
