Description
Placebex, the cure for all ailes! I am doing a mock pharmaceutical ad campaign for my studio lighting class. For this project, I have created a brand call Placebex. So far I have created a box and a bottle product which I have photographed. They, and other shots I have not submitted will be used in the advertising material. I plan to have 3-5 completed advertisements in the coming months.Commercial Photography... a new category for me. I have only EVER shot "art photography". I would definately like some feedback on these. Please keep in mind that this is not the final product and will be used as a piece of the final ads. I will most likely move them to scraps after some time.
By the way... Ask your doctor if Placebex is right for you.

LoL. Great stuff. Looks so real one might buy it.
Β I wonder if this was the inspiration for the comedy commercial satire I just heard on Rush Limbaugh radio show?
Β
Β Placebex by Smith Blarney or some such, and a entire commercial bit featuring a 'patient' whining about having no issues
but now at least the Doctor can prescribe something for something that does not exist.Β

taking the class at purchase? studio photography is from what i gather, all about control. more so than ever, it is your obligation as the photographer to control exactly what the viewer sees. because everything is in your control, you need to be very very picky about every detail. i saw a film on the still life and i saw two frenchmen spend literally 30 minutes arranging cheeses. never again.
the white background works well with pharmaceuticals... clean, safe, honest... in many ways, what they arent.
the lighting looks good to me... i dont deal with lighting(as you know). but in my oninion, good job dan.
the composition i have a problem with. your product doesnt really comand my attention. i dont really know how to deal with that in this case because your subject is so static. a rectangle in a rectangular composition. i wouldnt touch it. maybe if you got some of those pills and layed them out for us to see. the product would be more resonant in our minds.
your concept dan, is awsome. i wish i had thought of it. and thats when you know you have a good idea, people want to kill you for thinking of it. there is something that i dont like about it though. you describe your product as great for "super powers" and "vile rashes". dan, i know you are funny, we laugh very hard together, but i dont think that humor is best served there. i think being vague in describing what the product is good for will go farther in mimicing the reality. dan, this is a great idea.

no my friend. class at the best school of them all... RCC! actually... i signed up for a studio lighting class at International Center for Photography but it's not going to start until mid april, so i am auditing this class for free to get warmed up.
yes, studio stuff is in your control, and I dig it. i want to perfect lighting, and i have the patience for it... if you haven't noticed yet, I am quite the perfectionist.
awesome, im glad you mentioned that about the "Great for" stuff. I have been on the edge about that since i did this. I was in a big rush to put these together and those are the first things that popped into my head at the time. i will either re-do the box and bottle or I will edit them out later.
also... these are not meant to be alone. these were a combination of a lighting test with the possibility of using the product objects in the ads. the white backgrounds will not be used, nor will the shadows. and i have many other angled shots, but didnt submit them.
thanks for your comment b to tha izzle. fo' shizzle.
