Description Song Sparrow
St.Catharines, Ontario

Although these birds are fairly common, I have never knowingly seen one before. So I was excited to catch this little one.

Am I correct in thinking that this shot has virtually no cropping?

I wish!.. its a good size crop. I didn't want to get too close in case i scared it.

Distance is always a problem: usually not close enough but sometimes the other extreme. It's even more frustrating when your subject decides to get too close for you to focus.

Nonetheless, you did well. The foreground is a bit of a bother but nature seldom gives us a perfect setup.

Actually it was the foreground that prompted me to ask about the crop.
I was wondering if you could cut of about half of the free space on the left, as well as enough off the top to keep a 4:6 ratio.
Then apply vignette to frame the sparrow, thereby turning the foreground into a positive element.

If you shot RAW (or even large/fine JPEG) the 5D file can likely do the job.

But all that aside, it's always a good feeling to match a body to a name or to a voice, doubly so when you get a good shot like this.
