I love flintknapping, i should get back into it... i used to make my own stone arrowheads for a while, until i found out it was illegal to hunt with them here... (flint, obsidian, and rhyolite if i could afford to get some)

you have inspired me to get back on the horse. thanks

Just out of curiosity but are you trying to rediscover the way the Aztec used to make rather ornate obsidian blades?

DanielAPierce In reply to YiorYeosa [2012-01-07 06:24:19 +0000 UTC]

ha, No I'm not trying to rediscover or follow the aztecs.

OOF! You really nailed it with overall geometry of this one in my opinion. Looks balanced and just gorgeous, Dan. Overall length and blade length?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DanielAPierce In reply to HundredHands [2011-12-03 21:02:48 +0000 UTC]

The blade itself is somewhere around 7 inches or so, an it's about 14, 15 inches total length. It sold a while back, but it was hefty.

Magnificent craftsmanship!!
What is the plaiting material?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DanielAPierce In reply to RMikkE [2011-11-02 22:28:15 +0000 UTC]

If by plaiting you mean the wrapping on the handle it's natural colored sinew. You can find it online, it comes in many colors.

RMikkE In reply to DanielAPierce [2011-11-03 13:52:29 +0000 UTC]

Yes. I meat the wrapping
About these "natural colored sinew" They are artificial?
If so then I do not think that I have any use for them
my point is that I only use natural materials when I make a primitive products.

DanielAPierce In reply to RMikkE [2011-11-03 14:04:16 +0000 UTC]
