Description
Here's an old tutorial that I created a long time ago on how to create bullet metal which I'm reposting for Learnuary. One of my favorite things to create are metallic objects that reflect the world around them.
I don't state my brush setting on this tutorial because I have them stated in another one, but I'll tell them to you now(photoshop 7.0)
Make sure you go to you BRUSH PRESETS and check "Other Dynamics". then click on other dynamics to get more options. Make sure that "opacity Jitter" is set to Pen pressure. This will allow your tablet to have the soft pressure touch that you want it to have. Also I set my brushes with a little "shape dynamics". "minimum Diameter" set to about 60% to 100%.
For smooth blends, sets your brush hardness all the way to 0% hardness, and move the spacing to 30%. this will give you a nice smooth blend brush.

I need help bad! When I save a JPEG on Photoshop it makes the pic 2-3 shades darker than it actually is, anyway to correct this? THANKS!

First when you do this, do you "save for web".
Second what are your "color settings" go to "edit"- "color settings" then select "color manager off". I believe this should make the image as dark as it should be when you save for the web. That way you work lighter then you would if on any other selections.
Hope that helps.

Yo, I figured out what to do! Anyways, what you do is go to Image>Mode>Covert to Profile and you choose your monitor (If you know the name and if its listed) and it'll bring it to your monitor colors (Otherwise what you are drawing looks exactly the same) thanks man!

Great tutorial.. I'm confused about one step though.. you say you 'clean up the edges'. How exactly do you do that?

just simply sharpen it up more. Clean up the work and make sure everything is straight that needs to be or perfectly curved like it you want it to be. Just use what ever means you can, I usually just clean things up with the brush. It's all manual, nothing special if that's what you're looking for. :/

I think it would help if you explained to some of the people why you start with a dark medium. Speaking from a realism 3d point of view, metals are technicaly black except for what they reflect back as a colorized image. GOlds reflect back in a yellow/orange, Silvers in a light blue or sometimes a green. So this makes perfect sense to start off with the base color being a black. All in all this is a very nice tutorial not only on a bullet but on how to represent a reflection off a colored object rather than a simple flat mirror.
