Description
A birthday present for my SO. He's a serious Bruce Springsteen fanatic (like a 90's teenage girl at an NSYNC concert), and because money's been wicked tight lately, his gift comes in the home-made variety. As a general rule, portraits aren't my strongest area, but I'm mostly pleased with this one (even if he looks a little pouty, and his face slid a little). I have to get better at mapping out features before hand, so it's spaced more naturally. Ah well, he liked it and that's the important thing

Bruce Springsteen! I don't think I've seen a portrait of him before!
You did a good job with shading and blending on this. It looks really smooth and competently executed, with great attention to detail of the planes of the face. I appreciate how you've used straight lines for bones and angles, and softer shadows around the chin and fleshier parts of the cheets. The skin looks really pliant and soft, and there's a good distinction betweeen the textures of the hair, forehead, eye area, cheeks, and chin.
For me personally, the outline of the lips is a little too "hard" (you don't tend to get solid outlines like that in reality) but it looks like a nice fit with your style so that's more of an observation than a criticism.
I think that the angle of his face and head is subtly different from your reference image, but that's OK; you don't need to exactly copy a reference. But I find his eyes a little close-set in your image. Bruce has rather wide-set eyes, and I think his left eye should be further over towards the right-hand edge of the drawing. I suspect you drew the mouth a little too narrowly and it threw off your alignment for his eyes slightly.

Thanks CK! I worked in a bit of a counter-clockwise direction, and nothing ended up quite where I expected, lol. I'm definitely going to keep practicing, though.
