Description
Could not decide where to put this and finally decided on Misc.My Family room is completely covered in debris from the Rains on the 22nd and 23rd. We had been using our Family Room as a Music room and then later we moved out the drum set and some of the guitars so we could use the room as a Staging area for our roof. Said roof only needed two or three more weeks of finish work, but the Rain could not wait. The Family room, Kitchen and both bathrooms were damaged. It even flowed down to our Master bedroom to drip drop rain on DearHeart's pillow. Course, I did want to take the popcorn ceilings down, but NOT this way and all at the same time!!
The clean up starts today, just wanted to post this before it is all gone .... now that would be a nice clean world

Then you can cook, bake, dance and repeat.
I love baking but I'm trying to be healthier. All the tasty things are not so healthy.

Unless you use Splenda, as diabetics we've had to learn to do a LOt of the regular baking ourselves as most commercial goodies use too much salt, sugar and possibly corn syrup which is extremely bad for us! Course things like baklava and honey treats as well as chocolates are curtailed but not completely taken out, if moderation is used ... it's the word Moderation that becomes the Most difficult!
It really is the recipe you use as well as the good for you products.

Oh, I love Splenda. They've come out with another sweetener called Nectresse. I tried it by itself. It's just lovely.
I also love organic stevia. It isn't as good in coffee as it is tea. For awhile I was blending it in tea, along with rose hips.
Moderation? With chocolate?? Blasphemy!

We are almost to the point of drywall, then go the cabinets and tiling! Soo many things have needed improvement ... like every one else ... things have happened slow and steady as the funds and time has allowed! YIKES! No kitchen for 10mos, so far. All the electricel as well as plumbing has been improved to code. Everytime we found something messed up we had to fix it, but we've or rather the kids and dear heart, have done it all according to DIY and HGtv.com. Did you know these old fiberglass tubs and showers are hollow? The 70's were hot so why insulate ... ummm we insulate because it's HOT!
Learning on a daily basis!
How are you doing?

Thank-you soo much, I really appreciate the support! The clean-up is finished for now, but we still have three bedrooms with asbestos on the ceiling, we're thinking of just adding drywall to cover that up, but have to make sure the insurance company is ok or if they have to fix them, too!
I'd rather just add another layer of drywall and go on from there ... must follow whatever the rules are though
Actually the Dry Desert company just left, they've cleaned the place down to the walls ... literally, I even have pictures!
We decided it would be a good idea to put that foam insulation on the outside walls, with metal studs, ooooo
love that word stud, have I said that before?
I think the men in white coats are here to take me away, tried to tell them all I needed was Calgon and a tub!

Thank-you, it's HUGE, thank goodness the insurance company has taken responsibility or we would've had to do it all ourselves. When they found asbestos they had to do an abatement, that means the ceilings, walls and even the floors have to be stripped down to the studs ( like that word stud! ) They even brought us a pod to put our things in, that I never expected, it's like they really care about us little guys!
okay, enough commercialization

that is awsome! I mean, the insurance taking care of you like this. And asbestos!?!?! omg, that stuff is really dangerous for your health....
maybe... and just maybe... this is a sign you guys need to move to a better place, have you thought about it?
stay well and keep us posted plz

Funny thing is, the asbestos is in the glue they used to apply the popcorn ceilings ... which is strange as it wouldn't go anywhere until the popcorn is scraped. We have already scraped my daughters ceiling, the hallways, bathrooms and living room clear of all popcorn, but we used water to do so, soooo it wasn't really an issue, nothing went airborn. We assumed the insurance would do the same, but no, they want everything out, after just a hint of asbestos was found. There's a heavy concentration of it in the mastic that was used to put down the tile in the kitchen back in the early 70's, that's why they want to do all the floors, too. Since we'd wanted to remodel a room at a time, there isn't a problem, just they are doing a lot more rooms at one time than we could have even considered doing... whether or not we get cabinets taken out and then put back, now that is the question of the day! By the way, be careful what you wish for under a full moon, as I did that, wishing we could move things along a bit faster with all the changes we wanted to make, well, someone was listening!
Got to look at the Bright side of life!

Aww Sandy, thank-you, It's a heck of a mess, that's for sure!! They're even sending in a special company to drop the rest of the ceilings, sooo everything has to be moved out! YIKES! I'd found cabinets for under $1000 so I've been shopping around for a long time, just don't have that kind of money laying around! If they do take the cabinets, since they were sooo old, will they replace them? YIKES another question for the cleanup crew! Thank goodness for paying the insurance all these years, now they can do the cleanup, all we have to do is take care of the few things we had in there, oh yeah and the kitchen!
btw Thank-you for all those fav's! Very Sweet of you!

Thank goodness for insurance...I do a lot
of complaining about paying insurance but when things like that happen,
it sure is a good thing to have!I would think they would replace the
cabinets too,it's not your fault that they are old
Hang in there!I hope they get things fixed up fast for you!
