Description
Ok so it had to be done. Don't you just hate it when you get a ton of one word comments that don't give you any insight at all?Well here's your chance to voice your disapproval.
one word comments are of very little use to artists. We don't know what we did good or bad based on them. Show your artists some love and give them a sentence or two. We love feedback we can use.

I agree, when people write one word comments, it shows that they didn't put any effort into writing it.Β Don't you just hate it when you get excited that you got a comment, only to find it has only one or two words in it? Yeah, it's pretty disappointing.

Told someone this. Next time I got a comment from them was: "cool and cute"
THAT DOESN'T HELP EITHER. I already told them twice, but they won't listen :I

You know what's even worse than one word comments? Either "not bad" or "this is better than I expected". What does that last one even mean? That it's better than it was on the preview image or better than they expected from the [artist whose picture they were commenting on]? And "not bad" is rude, like it sounds like they think they're more artistically skilled than the said [artist whose picture they commented on]?

I get this sometimes; they're reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally degrading for me...they make me feel as though the comment itself is, well, false. Β Like the person who made said comment doesn't actually mean what they say...
That's why I try to use at least one sentence when I comment; at least a sentence can feel plentiful if written the right way. Β A word is just...well, a word. Β :/

> One word comments doesn't help!
Except people are allowed to post one word comments here whether you like it or not.
A comment can be a one-liner for all I care. It doesn't have to be over a thousand of words.
Want criticism? Request a fucking critique. There is a reason why the DeviantART staff added that option years ago.

I'm so sorry.
I'm guilty of this.
But I can't really think of anything else to say, and since the Deviation is usually comment-less, I want to give it a comment even if it's a monotonous one.
I'll keep this in mind and have more than one word per comment.
This is why I don't usually comment much: because I don't really have much to say.Β

In my opinion one word comments is still HELPFUL, because those people have nothing to say so much that they don't want to say so much comments. Who cares if one shall said that once. Unless you find someone whom is annoying.
You know, not all people are so bright minded to criticize one art because of lack of criticism experience.
They have their own rights you know.
Unless its a one Emoticon words :
o:
:3
xD
:b

Then its acceptable to find that comments is not helpful.

What drives Me up the wall is I actually wrote in a picture I worked my ass off of and asked for no one word comments. Almost every commenter did. And when I asked if they read it they simply say opps. What drove me nuts is the fact is they ignored it. As a plus they were one of those people who would pretty much ONLY put the same word on nearly everything. Though, it was sweet of them to take some time to write something to me it was appreciated. But I feel that is te only things they'll say.

UTERI In reply to GuardianStriker [2014-04-22 09:33:45 +0000 UTC]
The comment section is there for artists to get constructive criticism, tips, and help with their artwork. Not only are you denying that when you type "cool" into the comment section, but you did not help them a bit with furthering themselves and didn't seem to really care enough to give anymore other then a "kthxbye" to their art.

GuardianStriker In reply to UTERI [2014-04-22 14:18:59 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I am aware. But most of the time, some people including myself can't find anything wrong with people's artwork.
So honestly, what are we supposed to say when we criticize?
π: 0 β©: 1
UTERI In reply to GuardianStriker [2014-04-23 09:18:49 +0000 UTC]
At LEAST go on and say "Wow! I really like this, great job~!" Because thats a thousand times better then saying. "Cool." You don't have to say anything all dazzling and special but at least but two seconds of effort into it.
π: 0 β©: 1
GuardianStriker In reply to UTERI [2014-04-23 14:48:18 +0000 UTC]
I don't necessarily see how it's "thousand times better"
It's just a compliment just like saying "cool" so...what's the point in putting effort into a compliment? It's just a compliment. Not an awesome piece of artwork. Otherwise, I would see a reason to put effort into.
π: 0 β©: 1
UTERI In reply to GuardianStriker [2014-04-23 17:47:31 +0000 UTC]
Well then if you have these thoughts, write it. Because if thats the thoughts behind your "cool" then it becomes even more of an insult. I would like a thousand favs and no comments if the comments were going to be single worded ones with thoughts behind it like you just said.
π: 0 β©: 1
GuardianStriker In reply to UTERI [2014-04-23 17:50:48 +0000 UTC]
Look in my opinion, there are somethings where it would make sense to put effort into. I just don't see compliments worth putting effort into.
π: 0 β©: 1
UTERI In reply to GuardianStriker [2014-04-23 17:54:46 +0000 UTC]
Then its not a compliment. If you just stare at something and say cool all the efforts and time that went into that picture were just flushed away. It seems like you don't give two shits about what the heck they just drew and you wanted to just get yourself recognized so you put a comment there that took you two seconds before moving on. It takes literally three more seconds of your time ( well depending on how fast you can peck out the letters ) to type up "You did a good job!" or "This looks very cool!!" which has much more soul and not so insulting. In my opinion, your opinion fucking stinks and has no valid hold ups behind it.
π: 0 β©: 1
GuardianStriker In reply to UTERI [2014-04-23 18:10:26 +0000 UTC]
If I didn't give two shits, then I would not even favorite it or comment it.
Also, if you can't agree or understand a person's opinion on something and just say that "it stinks" it makes you sound like "you're new to the internet." Because seriously, you're just getting offended by one simple internet post. Which makes you sound like a 12 year old.
In other words, calm yourself and quit arguing with something that's not worth arguing about.

UTERI In reply to GuardianStriker [2014-04-23 18:12:55 +0000 UTC]
You sound like the five year old when you can't think up more then one word to comment on something. I completely understand your opinion, and that the thoughts behind it that you have explained to me are dumb. Nothing says new to dA anyways then not being able to understand that people get offended when you give a single word to their hours of work, so get off of your high horse already and don't comment if you don't have anything worth while to say.
π: 0 β©: 1
GuardianStriker In reply to UTERI [2014-04-23 18:22:02 +0000 UTC]
You're also forgetting that comments are not necessarily for criticism as well. Only if you want to.
If you want criticism, then request critique on a piece of artwork and people will write a critique if they want to.
Also, I can comment if I want to. I hate to break it to you, but if you don't like one-word comments, sorry.
You're just going to have to deal with it. You don't always get what you want and not everybody is going to listen to what you want them to do.
π: 0 β©: 1
UTERI In reply to GuardianStriker [2014-04-23 18:26:37 +0000 UTC]
You can critic in comments, critics can also only be requested by premium members if you haven't seen so you can't always do that. The comment section was MADE for constructive criticism. Just because it doesn't have a star system and a one hundred letter minimum doesn't mean that you can leave comments on something like its a facebook post.
I didn't say you had to, I said that yo ucan either do it properly or not at all. Please read the whole thing thoroughly before replying to me.
Your just going to have to realize that one word comments are insulting and that you can't just go around doing that and expect praise for it. People come on here to get better and one word comments don't get anyone better. I'm not just a little id like you trying to get what they want and stay in the right, I'm telling you solid facts that people come here to get better at what they do and constructive criticism is what the comments are for, not for you to type up cool in three seconds to get the fist comment on everything like the swag-ified brat you people seem to be. If oyu want to leave one word comment,s go back to face book / instigram / reddit or some shit because its not needed here.
π: 0 β©: 1
GuardianStriker In reply to UTERI [2014-04-23 18:33:46 +0000 UTC]
No. One-word comments are just not helpful. Not the fact their insulting. There's a difference between unhelpful and insulting.
Also, I think you're mistaken. Just because I type one-word comments, doesn't mean I aim to get the first comment. I don't really care if I get the first comment or if I don't. Because I know other people don't care about it. I've seen a lot of people on YouTube where they think they're so cool just because they got the first comment.
And constructive criticism is not the only thing that makes them better. Searching up tutorials also helps too.
And this argument your starting is not needed here either since it's pointless to argue about. Just to let you know.
π: 0 β©: 1
UTERI In reply to GuardianStriker [2014-04-23 18:37:13 +0000 UTC]
It can be the exact same thing kiddo.
A lot of people aim to do that and a lot of the first comments on things are the one worded ones. It pitiful.
People look up tutorials but tutorials can not give you feed back. Feed back is one of the most helpful things you can get for your art. If you never get told what your doing wrong, you'll make the mistake over and over and it'll become a habit, bad habits are hard to break out of so feed back and constructive criticism is what helps.
I'll fight and have conversations if I want ot thank you very much. All you have to do is stop replying if you're so bothered by this. It makes no difference to me.

People who are older have fights too. This is an orderly conversation, and no I am not making a five year old out of myself, I am far from it. If fighting is acting like a five year old, I guess we should stop having courts against criminals and fights against racism and political debates, because those are all fights. As long as you don't go off crying and reply blocking me then were having a normal debate here.

Fighting against racism, political debates and courts against criminals are worth a damn fighting for. Because without them, America would just fall apart.
But this fight about "one-word comments" and "people's opinions" is not and all this arguing is getting us nowhere. Which makes us both acting like 5 year olds.

America isn't the only place that has those kiddo, and I'm canadian.
Arguing over it is fine, and we can, it doesn't make us five year olds. We are talking maturely and acting so and expressing ourselves, and if you think that thats childish then you can take my advice form before and just stop replying. Its as easy as that.

you were the one that brought it into a fight sweet heart, I just repented back to your comment that you started on this stamp. It was public, and I have just as much right as anyone else to reply to it. I don't start fights, I start discussions, and discussions help people learn both sides of the story. I thought you would know that but it doesn't seem like you took much thought into it.
π: 0 β©: 1
GuardianStriker In reply to UTERI [2014-04-23 19:01:56 +0000 UTC]
Discussions are discussions. Arguments are arguments.
Discussions are conversations that don't turn up into a fight that someone disagrees on. Even if they disagree with it, they still understand their opinion on it and don't fight about it.
Arguments are conversations in which someone disagrees with something and then the 2 people start fighting about it just to see who is more right than the other person.
You had the right and choice to "not" repent as well. But instead, you chose to start this one simple argument that is over nothing but "people's opinions" and "one-word comments."
I guess you didn't take much thought into that as well.
