I made a tutorial a long time ago, and I think you´d be interested to give it a read. I gave an analysis of the color harmony of the Mane 6, and pointed to more color harmony analysis graphs hosted on my Google Drive .
On page 10 is a scatterplot (Figure 9) that shows that a good pony color should satisfy the formula Saturation + Value ≥ 100
I used my theory to design the color scheme of my OC and ponysona, Cosmia Nebula .

I'm not into ponies at all, but it's a very nice tutorial. Even such unrealistic show with rainbow-colored characters have its rules. I hate when people colour their OCs in oversaturated, eye-bleeding colors because ":insert character: is pink!"
