Description
I took this a few mornings ago at about 8 AM while I was walking my dog before work.I really liked how the insect was clinging to the shell that (I presume) he emerged from, as though he were clinging to his past. It reminds me of the way so many people cling to thier own pasts, from the former jock who peaked physically and socially in high school and spends the rest of his life reliving the "glory days" to the middle-aged divorcee who still finds thier identity in thier ex.
When I shared this with a friend yesterday, she saw a different interpretation, that of a metamorphosis from a dry, bland husk to a bright vibrant insect, a sort of growth and evolution.
So, interpret this either way you wish, or make up your own. But if you make up your own, be sure to share.
Another angle of this can be found in my scraps here [link]

Every summer I long for the sound of the moaning cicadas. It has to be a sound that brings me back to my earliest days of childhood, and very good memories.
I see someone who has grown from what they've been though, doveloping into somehting mature, and refined, due to events and things that happend. the shell being the past, as the title states, and no matter how long ago these things have happened, you can;t forget, or want to forget.

You're welcome. It is a cool composition. And nice concept. I love cicadas, also.

Wow, this is fantastic! I love the composition, and the description really makes the shot special. Do you have any other shots of this amazing scene? If you do, please share; I'd love to see them!

Thanks very much!
I do have more shots of this. I'll upload one sometime in the next day or 2 (although possibly to scraps, I try not to duplicate subjects too much), plus I have at least one other good shot as well, although it probably won't get posted. Anything that doesn't get posted, I'll still be glad to share. I can either upload them to Putfile or send them to you, I'll get back to you on that after I'm finished with all the resizing. (They're all 4048x3040 at the moment)

what a lovely photo... you did a wonderful job. And I like both of the interpretations you mentioned.
Last summer I got to watch a baby cicada come out of its shell. It was so fascinating... Normally I don't like large bugs, but that few moments I spent watching that cicada emerge into the world... it was really something else. I have a whole new perspective on these creatures now. They really are beautiful!
