Description
After waiting 17 years below ground, this particular species of cicada finds its way to the surface, climbs up the nearest tree and crawls out of its skin so it can spread out its wings, start singing and try to find a mate. The noise is so loud it's deafening, and you see hundereds on every tree for the few weeks that they are out. Many people think they are rather disgusting looking, but I think they are facinating.

they are fascinating, but they are also annoying. i live in the southeastern corner of the united states, and they are very annoying. especially when you're taking your dogs out to pee, and one of them tries to eat it, and it flies straight at you lol. but this is an amazing shot!

Awesome, awesome shot~ I used to always find their shells on the trees at my grandma's house when I was younger; I used to like putting them on people's shoulders and seeing how long it would take for them to notice bahaha. I also remember being soooooo excited when I finally got to see one of this little buggers coming out of their shell for the first time. It was so fascinating.
