James smiled and moved slightly to let you rub at a part that had been itching for the last few months.

My thumb kept rubbing, and I brought you up to my chest, smiling

I smiled in my sleep, mutt heart beating under your hand

James stays there, and falls into a light slumber, unike the toys in the box... He intended to wake. They... well, they didnt. And it would take some serious fun time for them to wake again.

I woke up about an hour later, stretching and yawning

Jame wakes, but stays motionless, his hand still resting palm down on your chest.

JAmes didnt move, his arm still on your chest when it should have been at his side where you left it the night before...

I frowned, confused as I touched his misplaced arm

James mentally slapped himself, he had forgotten about moving the arm back! he stayed completely still, hoping it wouldnt be noticed.

I smiled a bit."I know that's not how I left your arm..."

James didnt move still, hoping you would think you did it in your sleep.

I smirked. "Hmm...my hand was in the same position as when I went to sleep...so I didn't move it.. "

James stayed still... He knew the rules... until the child asked, he couldnt show... He had to stay still, no matter what happened. He had heard of toys who broke the rules. The other toys often took care of it themselves, forcing them to take the deep slumber... HE didnt want to take that option, even if he was the only one here awake.

I took a breath. "I'm going to sound crazy, but...you're not alive...are you?"

James blinked. You had asked... The one think that meant he could move... you had asked. He stared for a moment, before slowly nodding.
He took a deep breath, then opened his mouth for the first time in years, "Yes. I am." He said, then waited for your reaction. after just a second though, he stopped waiting and cried, "Please dont freak out!"

I stiffened, eyes widening in surprise. "I'm not freaking out. Are you freaking out? No, I'm just very interested in the fact you're alive. How long have you been alive, exactly?"

James chuckled. "No im not... Second question... Hmmmm.... Well, if today is tuesday.... Since that christmas when you were five and you got me."

My eyes widened. "That's a long time...good thing I never broke you, huh?"

James chuckled again. "VEry good... and im glad you loved me as much as you did, and played with me as much... otherwise, i might not still be alive for ya today..."

My eyes widened in surprise. "What do you mean?"

"Well... A toy can only be alive as long as he brings joy to a child, and feels like its worth it... or something similar, im not sure how to describe it... If they feel they arent loved, then... they fall asleep. Not a regular wake in the morning sleep, but more like hibernation... till playtime comes again. And not just any playtime, but a true, good time... So once one kid is done, they never have to feel abandoned. They wake the next time someone plys with them and truly gives them life again..." he said, explaining this... it felt... nice, to talk after a year of silence.... Harry had fallen asleep last spring, and it left only him to stay awake and watch you grow.

I bit my lip. "So...the other toys I have, are they...hibernating? We're you all alone?"

James nods, his smile not so happy now. "YEah... all of them... At one point, you had them all awake, a rare thing... but over time... you played with us all less and less... and then one day, you stopped playing with me too... I knew you still loved us, and i kept harry going with that... but he... well, he faded out last year... This last year, its just been me, watching you grow up, knowing you loved us, and that we had been good toys for you." He said, somewhat sadly. He missed the old gang, the pirate games, the dragons, the lego men that built castles and played themselves when you were away... all asleep now.

I whined a bit. "I...I didn't mean to be gone so long, to leave you alone so long...playing will help, right?"

James shrugs. "It would help me... But the others... Well, youd have to have some serious play time and fun with them to bring them out of sleep now. Harry would be the easiest... Hes been asleep the shortest... but it still wont be a quick game of prisoner hunt to get that furry dog to come out of his stuffing and wake up again."

I bit my lip. "...should I get my friends to help?"

"You cant tell them we are alive... and we couldnt show them until they believed we had that possibility in us." He said with a sigh. He couldnt break the rules, even now...

I sighed. "Looks like I'm on my own, then...unless...do you think playing with them while babysitting kids would work?"

James nods. "That could work... But youd have to be careful. Once broken, a toy can never wake, unless fixed and loved beyond measure... and ive only known of three such in history." He said.

I smiled a bit. "Trust me...I loved them all. But you were my favorite." I said, kissing James' head gently

James blushed slightly at the kiss. "I know..." he said.

I smiled, nuzzling him. "I babysita nine year old at noon...he might like the others."

James nods. "I'm sure they'd be surprised to see you again... the others I mean. Few toys ever get awoken by the same kid after falling asleep from him."

I nodded, sighing. "Alright...I better get them set up in the living room for Tobi. I'll put you in my pocket, okay? I need both hands to carry the trunk down."

James nods. "Go ahead... at this point, I won't be sleeping for a while.z he said, rubbing your hand since you were still holding him.
(About to go to work. With an hour break in there somewhere, I dint clock out for the day till sometime near 9:30 tonight.)

I smiled, tucking him into my pants pocket carefully, grabbing the trunk to take it to the living room

James smiled. After all this time, he had finally been picked up again... and even hugged. Today made all those other days worth it while you grew up.

I soon put the trunk down in the living room, opening it up and picking up a few old toys, smiling a bit. "...man, I forgot how much I missed these guys...I think Tobi will be happy with them."

"Your giving them away?"James asked. He wasn't sad or hurt... well, maybe just a teenie bit, but this was something every kid did eventually.

I smiled softly, sadly. "Not just yet. I want to make sure Tobi is going to be careful with them first, and if they wake up...I want to apologize to them."

I nodded. "Not yet it won't. Can you tell me when a toy is revived?"

James nods. "Sure can... Any toy can see when another is awake."

James nodded, then said, "Now, they wont be able to move if any other human can see them... Even if a kid knows a toy is alive, if its not his toy, hes not allowed to see it."

"Wait, so say I saw them move, then gave them away, would anything happen?"

"Well, you were a previous owner... it would be ok... but... we couldnt let tobi know ourselves,a nd he would have to truly believe before he could see us... One has to believe at some point before they evaen can see us move..."
