Description made a good point about how I'm revealing too much of TGAF comic content.

I do this for a couple of reasons.

One is for general exposure which is not a bad thing when starting the comic out. There are generally thousands of other web comics out there that are competing for a spotlight in the commercial market. And for those who don't showcase their stuff early on won't be getting much of an advantage than those who do present it to their target audience. Of course there are some exceptions to this theory as one can be patient enough to put years into a project - make the perfect comic and probably get a deal with the publishers immediately behind the scenes.

The second reason is to build up on my content and to also get people to spot out any errors on my English and punctuation. When I have my stuff ready I can get it published in the form of a book where people can pick off the shelf and read it at their own leisure without having to worry that about publication errors. has an excellent and original comic series running and she still shows it for free. It's a matter of how much the fans are willing to support your work - i.e. to buy the book, at least the money you spare is enough to put some food on the table.

Hope you'll enjoy the next chapter. There's much ass kick to do and I will reveal how I format my books for the New Year on my next journal entry!

Drawing in perspective is quite difficult! Do you use auxiliar lines to do it? Or you just do it? I'm curious to know! ^^

That's brillaint, Elson.
Poor Ruby. She's all freaked out.
That's great! I wonder what SEGA would be like if YOU worked there!
You'd be like, the next Yuji Naka of the Art Department or something.

Haha, I have so much to say, but so little ways to figure out how to say it. X_x;

However, in the top right corner, I can say one thing. The tones on the rocks/ground are extremely confusing to me. I can't tell who's standing on what! At first I thought there was a cliff, due to Ashworth's feet, then I thought 'No it's a mound of rocks' but then I got further confused because some rocks were seperated out.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darkspeeds In reply to AgentWebdog [2008-12-18 14:11:23 +0000 UTC]

Ah cool! Thanks for the feedback about the tone on the rocks/ground Lin. They are all at just about the the same level on the ground.

The separation of the rocks was to keep it natural because it was something I've observed when I was caving in Australia and the U.S. - the natural formation of the rocks slowly cascade into a natural slide downwards to surfaces that have a lot of wear and tear from the drips of water.

So from Larcel is at higher ground on the slope that is going downwards towards Ash and Ruby. I think I just confused you more but it's how I see it on that panel.

The more simplified tones that is under Ash and Ruby's shadows help differentiate from the more rocky surface that Larcel was standing on.

AgentWebdog In reply to darkspeeds [2008-12-18 17:37:12 +0000 UTC]

Ah, okay. XD I think that makes a little bit more sense. Whenever I go caving, I tend to go into things such as lava tubes so my experiance is a bit different. (The grounds are more smooth, and occasionally soft due to soot, ash, and bat quano.)

Although I think I see what you mean though, perhaps it would be easier to differenciate the gradual level maybe some very light burn tool shading on some of your hand drawn lines among the manga tones would help the reader to realize it's slipping in to eachother? I think it may just be confusing me because the boulder's look big, but the tones blending into them look small. For me it seems to make the eye uneasy, but again, I see what you mean now.

SonicPossible00 [2008-12-17 19:08:44 +0000 UTC]

Needless to say that your comic is coming along just fine, Elson. I really like how you were able to get Ruby's eyes so realistic, and the way she looks when she's frightened by something, that's just hillarious! The monster is also cool, and reminds me of some of the monsters that we have to kill in Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess. Great work as always, and congratulations for it, my friend. Keep it up!

In all honesty, that perspective shot is not quite working for me. If you're interested and haven't already, you can check out some of the Andrew Loomis drawing books online. [link]

They have a lot of really good info. This one is especially good for perspective [link]

It may not be comics, but I think it would be useful. ^_^

Please be a bit more specific in future your comment/critique/suggestion - did you mean bird's eye view of Larcel on the first panel or Ashworth from worm's view on the second panel?

It'll help me heaps more! And cheers for the links. *thumbs up*

I approve of Ruby's reaction.

I notice that her expression seems influanced by one piece, but the main art style seems to be more Sonic based... interesting.

Just out of curiosity, who do you think would win in a fight, Shadow the Hedgehog or Ashworth the Wombat?

SoftKeychains [2008-12-17 16:12:26 +0000 UTC]

Well...I have to confess that one year ago I thought in the exactly same thing. However now IΒ΄m pending for your strategy. Is no deal of the product without an apresentation of quality to a targeted public (for something is called marketing. IΒ΄m learning it basis)
Maybe in one...two years time I will face this personally.

About the pages. Well I couldnΒ΄t help myself when saw RubyΒ΄s expression, lol. I see that she is gonna be the queen of panic or something
However I took some time to understand what Larcel is actually doing. He looked dead for a while, but only now I see that is growing of frustation. That thing of perspective is very tricky, donΒ΄t you think?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darkspeeds In reply to SoftKeychains [2008-12-17 17:00:52 +0000 UTC]

It was a very difficult angle to draw. At the end of the day I had manage to get the result that I had wanted.

Larcel is a little agitated from rocks and debris weighing a tonne that fell on top of him moments before.

Soon enough you'll realise what sort of action to take with your comics. Some artists show theirs for free on a temporary basis and rely on audience loyalty to keep the series alive. Whilst some make it big time when they've made a refined product from years of dedicated labour and care to the art - and when they do it's only a matter of maintaining that standard.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SoftKeychains In reply to darkspeeds [2008-12-17 18:30:53 +0000 UTC]

Is really a question to ask ourselves if we are giving the best information for the readers. In my personal opinion, I think that in this way we can feel how the story starts and we know perfectly that is just the beginning. Besides to find the free time to make the comic itself and some extra artwork just for DA is hard. Everything takes it sweet time.

For that and for more that I donΒ΄t feel any ready to start the story. I need experience and to feel freely about comics. For now is just a hobbie and a daydream. Can never to become true. However IΒ΄m not the kind to think that is an impossible dream.

I love how Ashworth is all calm while Ruby is freaking out
I don't think you're revealing too much content (you haven't like told us how it ends, a secret ability/subplot, etc... or do you even know how it ends?! xDDDD)
I would buy the books even if it's for free online, just to support one of my fav artists!

That's the spirit. I would have to rely on these kind of people to help keep TGAF alive for sure - until I got some sort of deal from a publisher then I'm set.

Cheers for the feedback - Ruby sure is freaking out! Ashworth is the cool, calm and collective type after all. XD

Haha, there's tons of people that would support you/make sure you keep on/start rioting if you stopped (myself included)
