Description
Here is the original Digimon Adventure team as genderbended / genderblended / genderflipped versions. I gave them all names that sound somewhat similar to their original ones, not counting the one exception. I’m not even sure how I first got the idea, but once I got started on drawing these, I got a bit carried away.Tatsu Yagami: Taichi's genderbend self. I was stuck between two different names for her before I settled for Tatsu, which actually does have some of the same sounds as "Taichi". Tatsu also stands for 'dragon', which I found a nice nod to Wargreymon's Dramon Killer move.
Jin Kido: Jyou’s genderbended self. I don’t really know many Japanese girls’ names that start with ‘J’, but I was lucky enough to run into “Jin”, which means “Tenderness”. I thought it was a fitting enough name.
Yomi Ishida: Yamato's genderbend self. I was trying to keep up the mythology theme that was in the original names for Yamato and Takeru, as together they're Yamato Takeru, a character from Japanese legends. In the end I ended up going with Yomi, which is the underworld in Japanese mythology.
Tomoe Takaishi: Takeru's genderbend self. The name here was a no-brainer, since I immediately remembered the female samurai Tomoe Gozen who is the subject of many Japanese legends. Tomoe Gozen fought during the Genpei War (1180-1185).
Makoto Tachikawa: Mimi's genderbend self. The name 'Makoto' was an easy pick to me, mainly because it stands for 'sincere' or 'honest', which is one of the translations for Mimi's crest too.
Sora Takenouchi: I decided to let Sora keep the name of the original partially because I couldn't find any suitable replacement for it and also because I'm actually fond of the name as a boy's name as well.
Kiyoshi Izumi: Koushiro's genderbend self. I actually had the most names to pick out from here, and it took me some time to decide which one to settle for. I ended up using Kiyoshi partially because I liked its sound for her the most and partially because I thought the meaning suited the character, as 'Kiyoshi' stands for 'quiet child'.
Haruki Yagami: Hikari’s genderbend self. I decided to name him Haruki, “Shining Brightly”, because I didn’t want to use the cliché 'Hikaru'. Not to mention I grew up watching anime where 'Hikaru' was also used for girls exclusively. XD
