Description
phew. This represents months of work, really. After reading the book several times, one needs more than a mental picture of how everything is laid out. So... I got together with a friend of mine and figured out at least one way Erik's lair could be arranged... and I rather like it like this. If you read any scene in the book that takes place in his lair, I think it matches up with this set up...But I'm posting this so everyone can give me an A-OK. Once I feel like this is the plan I want to stick with, I can begin long-awaited comic strips and such.
Please comment, and don't be afraid to challenge my ideas... they are merely ideas! I want to make my future Leroux-based drawings as accurate as possible, so I would appreciate criticism and any other ideas you may have. One thing I especially fear is that I don't have the right furniture in some areas... I tried to stay close to the time period... but... I don't know how to set up furniture.
Here are some extra notes:
Erik and Christine can be seen from a bird's eye view (or rather, a rat's?) about to enter the drawing room.
The gray floor you see in the hallway and Erik's bathroom is NOT stone/cave floor. It is gray marble.
The yellow floor in the drawing room represents carpet, as does the red floor in Erik's bedroom and the Louis-Philippe room. The brown floor in the dining room is wood. The pale floor in Christine's bathroom is tile. I should have made square tiles...
And of course, there are secret passageways and such that I don't plan on drawing out. Even I cannot begin to fathom all of Erik's "secrets"....
**UPDATE**: I just added a kitchen. It's tough drawing furniture from a rat's view, but there's a large counter top with a sink, shelves with kitchenware inside of them, and a stove/oven.

It was so long ago!
I know! Erik would be like "where's my diary... shoot! It's at Christine's bedside! I'm dead!!"
His style would change depending on what room you're in. I prefer to think that he wants to keep everything very "average"... average victorian, louis-philippe furniture, very average decorations, but every once in a while there's a detail that is so WRONG that anyone would be able to tell you this man is just a tad insane. Like the coffin bed I mean.
I should! hehe more Loki!
Yes! I mean, he's got to keep the apartment at an appropriate temperature and everything anyway. He's a genius. He built everything ahead of time.
They play the piano in the drawing room... which is also the Louis-Philippe room. :/

AHAHAAHAHAHAHAH I can totally imagine him doing that... wait, I'm gonna WRITE A FIC about this! And I'll write that the idea was yours XD
Yeah, like the coffin bed or like the fact that the house is just five floors underground... these DETAILS that make Erik the mad man we all love ♥ anyway yes, I think he'd love average things too.
Oh Loki
Yeah, what about a computer? So he becomes a phantastic stalker... (as if he needed to BECOME it)
This is starting to be confusing... how is it that there's a library, a piano and a BED all in the same room? No no no we have to invent the existence of other rooms.
This only goes to show how mad was Leroux too!

please, please do!!!
awww it's so true.
Can you IMAGINE the amounts of online stalking the ultimate real-life stalker Erik would do? He would certainly figure out how to rig everyone's webcams and watch them unbeknownst to them!! O___O
I have no idea. Maybe it's really two rooms with sort of a separation? A curtain!!

Uh-oh... you're actually tempting me. I could try to write it in English, and you could (try to) correct it, if I manage to actually write IN ENGLISH and not in a non-existent language... hehe.
Exactly! I mean he would be totally FRIGHTENING!!
No, no Erik, I'm not saying you're not ALREADY frightening... no Erik, of course you are terrible even without webcams and computers... no, Erik, of course we all fear you!..
Ahem.
A curtain! But oh... imagine this: night, Christine sleeps because she's a normal human being who sleeps, Erik doesn't sleep because he's Erik. He wants to spend some time on the couch to read something... and he's in the same room as Christine. With only a curtain, IF there is a curtain, to divide them. Heart attack in 3... 2... 1...

I gotta say that I imagined everything quite... differently, somehow. There are so many little aspects I'm thinking of now that it would be too much to write them down. Note to self: Re-read PotO!
Making his lair accessible like a kind of peninsula is a very logical idea, as are the bathrooms (of course he needs one oO)
Anyway, great work! It's obvious that you put a lot of effort into it.

this is pretty cool. There was a hallway? I'm looking up images of the Opera Garnier, and may I say...it's HUGE! What translation do you refer to? I'm finding the Lowell Bair version okay.

DarthxErik In reply to InYuJi [2011-07-26 13:58:58 +0000 UTC]
Idk I have the bair, but this was actually based off of my old translation which was pretty much abridged. So I'm going to have to redo this anyway. Because I just learned I think that the Louis-Philippe room is the SAME as the "unmasking" room with the piano. GOSH DARN IT! I didn't know that!

It looks pretty accurate to me.
I love how the torture chamber is just hanging out there, with the little tree. I was disappointed that they left that scene out of the play.
I love how Erik's bathroom is so much grander than Christine's. I also love Erik's closet.
