Description
My SECOND shot at coloring with photoshop. (Actually, on this one, I drew Erik with my pad... no scans!)Man, this took an eternity. Probably not more than 6 hours (yes, I'm still very slow w/ photoshop...) but also because some of the textures and items were very complex. Tell me if the mirror looks right-- my Dad kept having to help me get the lighting just right.
Anyway... I've always wanted to draw something like this, and finally it all came together. I hope you like the Leroux-ness of it all, and I hope I didn't forget anything. Perhaps a music stand would've been nice... then again, Erik probably knows scores of music by memory... he doesn't NEED one to practice with.
My favorite part about this peice would have to be Erik's violin, though. I've never drawn him with a violin, and he's so amazingly adorable!!

This is lovely ! I love the details, the mechanism, but isn't Erik a bit too greenish ? Christine describes his skin like yellowish in the book.

He may be! Problem is, When I began trying to draw "Lerik" some of my inspiration came from iron-gibbet's artwork-- And it just so happened that a light pale green worked best with twistables. Since then, Erik's skin has been greenish, not yellowish. Although if I were ever to do a more realistic take on Erik, I'd make him a pasty yellow. thanks for being all lerouxy! I sure appreciate your being honest with me.

I get what you mean, when I was working with tria markers, it totally worked on the paper with a greenish skin, but on the scanner and comp, Erik looked like ET.

Wow, this is sooooo adorable!!!! (Squee! Leroux Erik is my favorite)
This is strange, but my favorite bit is Christine's hair. Don't ask.
I also like the little mechanism on the mirror.

I know, right? Leroux Erik is actually deformed, much unlike Gerik (very very sorry, but it is true) who only has a little skin rash on half of his face.

very true! I still love him regardless, but I do agree they could've done a bit better on the deformation in the movie...

Have you ever seen the 1990 Phantom stage musical/movie thing with David Staller? (not Charles Dance)
Now THAT was a good deformity.

yes. That was great. Almost shockingly great. Although why did they steal the ALW mask and paint it silver? That kind of deformity deserves a full face area.

Well, I guess they were kind of thinking the same thing as ALW at the time. You know, like, 'we're trying to show the handsome side of him, so you don't see him as an ugly, creepy stalker.' But I think he was kind of like Philippe from the Charles Dance TV series. (long, lovely curly locks)

I didn't really like him as a phantom period. He was waaay too egotistical. But hey. His deformity was genius. (A master-blend of the ALW version and Leroux.)

Very nice!
I think your mirror looks fine, though I'm no artist so my opinion probably shouldn't count. I just know what I like.
I think my favorite part of this pic is the mechanism to open the mirror. The spiderwebs are a nice touch. They tell us that yes, this IS a secret door, but it hasn't been used for some long while.
I like Christine's dress, too. It's a good period representation. (Too many PotO artists feel any long dress will do. Tsk.)
So, will we be seeing the 2nd installment of your PotO/PotO crossover any time soon? (nudge, nudge)
Barb

In regards to the mirror, thank you, dear! My dad came home after I submitted and he gave me the thumbs up!
very good point! I didn't actually think about that aspect about the mechanism as I was drawing the cobwebs, but that's a very good point! You'll just have to wait and see!

This is a wonderful picture. I'd say the 6 hours you spent on it were definatly worth it. I wish I had photoshop, but, alas, I only have Corel Painter Essentails.

Wow. That IS AMAZING!! Like Pineapplelicious said: Two completely different worlds. And the details are amazing. Like the spiderwebs in the corners and the mirror in the background. The shading is excellent. And I have to agree Erik with violin is so adorable and he doesn't need a music stand...he's a freaking GENIUS! XD
also... I must admit you totally took me by surprise... First I didn't pay attention to the thing next to the mirror, I noticed it but didn't think anything about it. Then I kept scrolling up to see if I could find any more details I might have missed the first time, my eyes then wandered to the edge of the mirror to see if there hinges of some sort... then my eyes very slowly followed that chain and my mind wondered: What is THAT? and then it hit me....The mechanism to open the mirror.
Why I didn't make that connection the first time I saw it, no clue. Maybe its because it's so rare that you actually see it drawn somewhere...actually I think it's the first time I've seen it drawn in some kind of way, and yet when I see PotO movies or read fanfiction, I always think about it. It's probably the logic and physics part of my brain that tells me that a sliding door in the 19th century would never be that silent.

thanks for the uberly long comment! You made my day.
And thanks for noticing the mechanism... you're right. I have never seen any sort of conceptional art for drawing that thing, so I just had to make it up. Don't ask me how it's supposed to work though-- that's for Erik to know and all of us to forever wonder and guess!

This is amazing! I love how you took more of a Leroux-ish take on it. The mirror is just great. It caught my eye right away. Erik's violin is a nice touch though. I can just picture him playing "music of the night" on it as he looks at Christine.
