CONCEPT ART. I KNOW THE LINE-ART/COLORING IS FUZZY. :CThis is a long-time dream of mine that I plan on making a reality.
Here's some concept art for the cover of my illustrated version of "The Phantom of the Opera."
I truly want to make this a Leroux-loyal illustrated version of the book, but the question is... should I copy and paste the entire text into this book, abridge the text myself, take an abridged version, or re-tell the story adding lots of twists and extra scenes?
Not sure. This project's still in the concept phase. I've got a sketchbook filled with what each page of the first few chapters might look like... This could be a 50+ pg book.

OOOOOOOH, DarthxErik, you MUST finish this! I got so excited when I laid eyes on it and then I saw it was all sketchy with that big old dang watermark smack in the middle of it! Well your comment has certainly encouraged me, because I've had a very busy semester, very tempted to put this project on the back burner. But I will try my best to continue through with it as soon as some of my other projects are done this semester.

This is a fantastic idea.
Maybe if you didn't want to do such a huge project, (printing costs are a pain, lol), you could do a condensed children's book version of the story?
It's just a suggestion, but I think your style jives with children's books really well, and you've already got some experience under your belt in that area, so it may be definitely something for you to consider.
What ever you end up doing, I will support you wholeheartedly, and I am sure that it will turn out fantastic.

I'm not sure what else to add, I think everyone's more or less said how awesome this is! The idea sounds fantastic, it would be wonderful to have a version of the book properly illustrated.
PLUS I think this would be the first proper cover for Leroux's PotO that would entice people who've never read it to pick it up. I once thought how fantastic it would be if someone created a cover to put over the poorly thought out ones many copies have! This definately has potential!

i think. write out the story from memory before drawing anything. compare what you remember with the book. include anything you omitted that you think is important. then go from there.

I think that you should keep faithful to the plot, maybe with an abridged version, particularly for people who are new to Leroux's POTO, but maybe you could have a few little references and allusions to other versions of it, like the Webber musical, Charles Dance version, etc.
Whatever you decide to do, I know it'll be awesome!

I love it, and if you were to write your own, I would totally buy it! I am a big fan of your artwork! There is just one thing, in Leroux's phantom world, Christine is blonde, but other than that the cover looks wonderful! <3

Don't copy and paste it... Rather, retell it in your own words, say the original story is by Gaston Leroux, then add some little tidbits here and there~ I will surely buy a copy~
