Due to the awful scarring of his face, Don Juan has always been self conscious. The other colts taunted him and attacked him from his blind side, causing Don Juan to be jumpy and introverted, hiding away when he could and jittery when he couldn’t.
Fearful
Never having a mother to love him as he grew, the little zebra has known little other then fear and misery in his short life. His father made it clear that to approach him would almost certainly mean death, and so Don Juan has n one to look after him.
Intelligent
Lacking and kind or physical prowess or speed, Don Juan has embraced what brains he was given and does his best to harness them.
The little Zebra is a smart enough fellow to know that even if he doesn’t agree with his father’s(and the herds) philosophies, not to say anything about it. Instead he is quiet and listens to what his elders, and the leaders tell him. He is hoping to escape one day though…
Curious
Though he keeps it hidden most of the time, Don Juan is a very curious little colt. He’s always liked to know how and why. And before he knew any better, he’d go around asking these questions, earning him more then one beating from the older stallions.
Kind
Being considered a cowardly, useless kind of creature himself, Don Juan has always been sympathetic and kind, especially to those who are somehow below his station. He does his best to never let too many others see it, but Don Juan is no mindless brute.

History:
Prebirth:
Don Juan’s father(Raoul) was a typical bachelor stallion; angry, cruel, and misogynistic. He was never kind to mares, and made an effort to not even notice the broods unless he was courting one.
When the herd gained another zebra though, a mare named Christine, he changed a little. Though he was not necessarily incredibly kind to the mare, he kept her to himself and away from the other stallion’s affections and aggressions. It was more obsession then love that caused Raoul to act so, though.
Unsurprisingly, the zebra soon grew large with foal, and Raoul guarded Christine even more jealously. He’d roar and pin his ears if another stallion would so much as glance at his mare.
He wasn’t cruel to Christine though, in fact he often took her on trips to see the island. To the marshes during the summer to watch the fireflies and stargaze, the Riddle mountains in the springs to lay in the sun and look at all the beautiful flowers bloom, and in the winter they explored the Fallen City.
The Fallen City was the couples favorite place to explore, for the human artifacts were wonderful. Once, they even upset a table, and music began playing. It was queer, unusual human music, but it had strength in it, and the couple decided to pull a name from the song to name their first born colt; Don Juan Triumphant.
When Christine’s birthing time came around, Raul wouldn’t even let her go alone, for fear that she wouldn’t return. Even though he followed her though, the zebra mare still didn’t return; she died in birth of unknown causes, though her colt survived.

Childhood:
The first thing Don Juan ever felt was his father’s anger, his first breath a cry of pain as Raoul tore through the foal’s skin. The little zebra foal’s mother had passed with his birth, and his father was not happy.
The scarring, done in such horrific anger, had not gone as it was meant to. Instead of a clean crisp ‘X’, Don Juan had half his face removed, and his left eye gravely injured (A kind mare later pleaded with the witch Bayuga to remove the eye, as it grew cloudy and infected).
After that Raoul would have no interaction with his child, and he was passed around the broods to be raised in whatever way they saw fit. The mares were kind to Don Juan, and while he didn’t understand why they were treated so badly, he knew he couldn’t ask why. Instead he watched quietly, learning how the herd worked so that he may one day fit in.

Teenager:
As he got older, it seemed clear to Don Juan that he was not going to fit in. Though he wasn’t treated as badly as the broods, he was still considered somewhat of a second class citizen. Because of his shyness and disinterest with fighting with the other colts Don Juan was considered a coward and a near disgrace to the heard.

Though he has thought about trying to run away, but Don Juan knows that he has nowhere to go. He believes it to be unlikely that any other herd would accept him into their ranks, thinking he was a spy. So the colt lives on quietly, lagging as far behind from the herd as he dares and hoping that one day he might be saved. By who though? He tries not to think about that.
