Thank you very, very much. It was definitely a risky photo to shoot. Shots from that angle ALWAYS are for me.. Have you looked through the rest of my gallery?

Wow, LOVE this shot. Gives me goosebumps just thinking of sprawling across that expanse like that! Your entire gallery is just fantastic! And
you are a fellow Washingtonian! How cool! I live just outside of Wenatchee.

Excellent work - I can't wait to see more!

Hey! Sorry for the late reply! You know, I don't get over that way much, but have been wanting to do a tour of ghost towns around the state. Do you know of any out and around that area?

O.O... I never knew photographers had to go to such heights. Heh, if I tried that, I'd probably fall off and split my head in two.
Anyways, it's a nice shot.
And I have a question...
What do you think would be a good starting camera? I've been working with my moms digital, but it doesn't do the focus on one subject and blur out the background thing. Is there a camera out there that's inexpensive that I could buy?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

daveainley In reply to silentfollower [2006-08-29 23:53:51 +0000 UTC]

DEFINTELY!! Anyone who EVER asks me about cameras knows that I'll tell you older is better. Now this isn't goiong to be the case 100% of the time, but typically, it is. Older cameras were built better, for one. I myself am a Minolta guy. I shot an SRT 101 as my very first SLR, and it was a WONDERFUL camera!! I loved that thing to DEATH. Now I'm shooting a Maxxum 7000, which is basically a piece of crap attached to a camera strap. Its too old to be cool and too new to be vintage, however it takes EXCELLENT photos. You can pick up one of these at a decent pawn shop for $200 or less. That would be my BEST recommendation. Get a Minolta or Nikon, Canon or Pentax, they're all good tools. Make sure, however, that you get one thats FULLY MANUAL. You need to be comfortable adjusting all the settings manually, learning how light works, and try to let the computer do as little work as possible. To be an excellent photographer, you really need to hone your craft, and an old SLR is EXACTLY the tool for you.

silentfollower In reply to daveainley [2006-08-30 16:55:11 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much for the advice! That should help a lot. Heh, now I just have to save up the money to buy one. It might take a while, but I'm sure it'll be worth it! Oh, by the way, what does SLR stand for?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

daveainley In reply to silentfollower [2006-09-01 08:48:35 +0000 UTC]

SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex, and it means that there's a mirror inside your camera, and when the shutter is opened up to reveal the image to the film, it first bounces off this mirror, and hen records it onto the film. If it were a DSLR, that means DIGITAL SLR, and its the same thing with the mirror, only instead of recording the image onto film, it does it digitally.

sometimes your work falls into averageness [that is, average compared to what you can do] but often you pull out something amazing that makes up for the rest of them.
like this.

daveainley In reply to livebeyond [2006-09-01 08:39:51 +0000 UTC]

Well I'm glad you're never afraid to tell it to me as you see it. I am, afterall, HUMAN. I try to 'feel' shots as much as possible, but unfortunately, sometimes I feel as if I'm just doing a job.. which sucks, but that's how I'm sure it is for most artists in this type of field, and I guess just about anybody else who's out there working for money. Unfortunately, stuff doesn't always go the way we plan it, and sometimes we don't feel like being there at ALL.
