Description This is the final render from the X-Wing that I made here using LeoCAD before exporting to Cinema 4D

I spent about an hour working on the materials of the model to make sure that they have that same rough texture that lego pieces have then I gave them a little bit of reflection as they are clean pieces of plastic. Finally I added a HDRI environment to make the model look like it is real....I think it looks awesome tbh.

To make this I used LeoCAD to make the model then C4D for the textures, lighting and rendering.

All in all about 5 hours work plus 3 and a half hours to render.

Enjoy...

Looks great !
(You could improve the final render with a little pw, but that's detail.)

Thanks man, I won't be revisiting this peice any more, old model and old render, I use completely different software now too.

I agree there are some areas that need touching up in PS but I am working on other projects

DaveCox In reply to petricak [2007-11-20 00:22:19 +0000 UTC]

ah see i didnt make mine in C4D i just rendered it in there. I have just this minute got 3dsmax and it looks like it will take me a long time to get used to it.

but thanks anyway.

nice indeed
i do think the render time sounds a bit high, but im not sure how you could bring that down. i probably told you this already (awful memory), but you should increase the maximum rather than the minimum antialiasing amount. 1x and 4x are normally good enough, or 1x and 8x for things with lots of transparency and refraction. you can sometimes also get away with reducing the gi accuracy quite a lot and thatll speed things up as well.

ah this is new news which means it is good news. I dont think i told you but my P4 is not HT enabled as my motherboard does not support it which means that i only get one render line and twice the render time that i should... you have no idea how annoy that it to me. but thanks for the info, i will put that to the test.

capnhack In reply to DaveCox [2007-06-07 20:26:26 +0000 UTC]

well, you wouldnt wanna run more than one render threat at the same time on a single proc/core anyway cos the overheads would just slow things down. i cant think of much else thatd help but if youre using area shadows you can reduce their accuracy too. that may well be noticeable tho. well, good luck with speeding things up

haha i tried lowering the AA and GI and yeah it speeds things up, i used a different render to run it on and it was like a quater of the time.

Oh my, I am so impressed. I'm not alone in being such a fan of starwars lego in an older age group.

Very nice rendering job too

I am so tempted to buy one of them off of their website...£40 seems a bit steep so this will have to do.lol
