They chose the Mustang because Ford probably is paying for the show.
I personally think they should have designed a new car for the show that isn't any particular make or model.

Pontiac needs to come up with a sleek new car on par with the new Camero. Since Kitt Camero and FireBirds had a similar frame. It would be logical. But since this is Hollywood, I doubt there will be logic to whatever car they choose.
My thought on Kitt as a car is that other than his black color and a nice looking car, he shouldn't stand out too much considering the work Michael Knight does.

If what I saw was a real movie poster and it's supposed to be the new KITT in the upcoming Movie. I'm Underwhelmed.
