Description
A thought from a while back. It was my first thoughts when the high school kids started killing all their class mates because they felt so isolated. I have tried shooting this one 4 times now. This is the best I could do with it. Doesn't do it justice...Related content

What if you were able to use a syringe instead of a dart? I (believe) I get the concept you were going for there, but I do see why you said you haven't perfected the shot yet (No offense, I am a fan of your work)

I feel bad, I laughed, and then I read the description.
Admittedly, this would be amusing to see someone do.
Great shot, and I love the message, very powerful.

did you have to search for the right dart or did you just happen to have one the right size?

Great idea, and a good thought on conveying it. Crisp image, and immediately recognisable idea behind it. It strikes as possibly a little odd, however, and while surreal may not be all that far off what you were going for, it does initially strike as a peculiar and humorous image, as paikan07 suggested first. Perhaps just something as simple as a different bullet in the chamber instead of a dart? Or even a different coloured bullet. (I apologise if you've thought of this yourself, and disgarded the idea, or if someone else has made a comment with the same sort of thoughts in it on here, I'm not about to read through all the comments on this shot, there are a lot of them.)

I know it must sound repetitive by now, but my Lord, brilliant concept. The idea of differences, isolation, feeling so alone. The odd one out - the 'outsider'; it really affects me. I love how to me in seems to represent the links between murder. How the tool never matters because the result is always the same. It also has a lot of historical reverence with me - how the world and the people within it have always been the same, but their devices change. An arrow in the 11 hundreds, a gun yesterday... the motives are the same, the pain identical. Amazing.

I like the idea. I like the compostion. Although, you not being "happy" with it, may I suggest possibly changing the dart. The copper kind of blends into the metal and black of the gun. I was thinking some kind of colorful dart might stand out more. The other idea I was having. ....how long is the barrel? 4 or 5 inches? What if you did dirty Harry style with more of an angle back to the butt of the gun, so to show more length of the barrel with the dart. Or even a photo from the persepective of the barrel at an angle to show that there is a dart (if that makes sense). Just a few ideas. -Kendra

hmm. i thought of another interpretation for this one than how the dart is trying to fit in with the bullets even though he is different. to me it's like the dart is there becauset that's what's supposed to be used. not the bullets. kids should play games not shoot guns. like what should be is trying to impose itself on what is.

Whatever else it might be, funny, or clever, or whatnot, it's a very ingenius take on a very serious and deep subject. The starkness and the evident contrast between the dart and the bullets was a brilliant idea, and as much as i feel there are few better ways of representing a misfit, i agree with you that this doesn't quite do justice to the columbine & taber shootings (anyone who hasn't heard of taber, it's in Alberta, Canada and it happened not long after or before [i can't quite remember which] Columbine)

Brilliant shot. It just looks awesome, and it makes an interesting discussion point. Like one of the above mentioned, the idea of replacing one kind of ammo with another is really smart. This is so awesome. *fav'd*

Sir Dave, i been browsing your stuff and i really enjoy it, in composition and ideas, you are up there my friend. Question tho, I'm pretty amateur and feel lame for asking this, but how do you achieve such a white background to these shots??? please let me know so i can actually take quality shots of my own!

The dart in the chamber (as aposed to the bullets) is not really part of the group but is trying to fit in.
Hope this helps. Thanks for this and all your other comments. Really appreciated.

The photo is brilliantly shot, lighting, clarity of focus all spot on. The design concept is original and well thought out, and you're reasoning for doing this admirable.
for all the above reasons.
