Conveluded thought process at work... This is how I come up with ideas...Thought came to me while trying to do some water drop shots a while ago. I used a syringe to do the drops. I was doing the drop thing in a sink. I saw a pipe. Remembering my junkie lingo I thought of the term "fix". Then I thought of "fixing the pipe". A shot I plan on doing is sticking a needle into a piece of elbow PVC pipe and calling it "fixing the pipe... But I digress...
I wanted to do a series of double entendre's with a syringe. So for the next few weeks I will obcess on ideas I have been thinking about for a while. Hopefully they won't bore you to tears. They won't have the absolute deep thought that some of my other shots have. They will be more an expression of ideas...
Technicals of note... Shot this shot without the drop. I was good looking but still not great. I then tried to get one with a drop. 4 hours and 300 expsures went by with no luck. I then took my faithful cornsyrup and food coloring mixture and made it sort of brown. I let the stuff sit around for about 2 hours until it got real soupy then dropped. This drop hung on the end of they syringe for over 2 minutes.
8 Lights used. All household, all using GE Reveal light bulbs (can be picked up any where that sells light bulbs). Most were 40 and 60 watts to add ambient light. I hung 1 light above it with a 250 watter to generate the shadows and highlights...
Canon 1D, Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro, f16@125th. And I have to mention my Gitzo 320 tripod. Rock solid support... It rocks...

This shot reminded me of one of my best friends,Taylor. He is completely addicted to caffeine. He relies very heavily on it to keep him awake.I always chastise him but he doesnt listen.I think he would love this pic as well. Nice work!

Hey Sam... one of my personal favorites. The Oxford University magazine used this image for an article on caffeine addiction. I guess that makes me a Rhodes scholar in one way or another. LOL

i have long made the jokes/half truth admissions that coffee was my life blood...the lifeblood of a divorced mom raising kids alone...etc..
and always for many years i have set my coffee up the night before and burned up countless timers that had it all ready for me to just stumble to and find in the mornings---
ANYHOO-
I always wanted to take the timer idea one step further?
and set my coffee on an i.v. drip-direct into me!
always thought that might make me a morning person...
but alas-there is no hope for that-
I have surrendered to my circadian rhythms, rather than fight them...
and now that i have babble you to tears,
i will go crawl off for some more coffeh!

Coffee is definitely one of my vices...
[One of my friends insists that I'm addicted...] But I like the the way this one is composed. Also, how the syringe makes caffeine seem more diabolical. Like, caffeine is some hardcore, highly addictive drug.

I like the concept. Something about the execution feels... a little disturbing? - All the sterile white and the way you positioned the cup within the frame. The handle so frighteningly parallel to the borders of the frame. I've never seen coffee look this threatening, and I'm not usually one who cringes at just the sight of a syringe.
