What you've done with the metal here puts me in mind of acid-washed jeans. The effect looks
really very striking and ties together perfectly with the pristine 'Stormtrooper' white.

thank you Kat....it's quite hard to paint in zbrush and get it over to daz exactly how you want it...i tend to paint quite dark knowing i can lighten it up..sometimes when i've gone for a subtle bit of painting it's gets lost when rendering and under different light...lots of testing and renders is the way to do it!!

You're welcome, Dave. Heh, I know your pain! Painting in Zbrush is an artform in its own
right. Painting the skin textures for my male characters (which didn't turn out badly for my
first attempt) took a lot of time to fine-tune and understand Zbrush's quirk with changing
the colours. Everything may look perfect in Zbrush, but as soon as I exported my maps, I
was having 'cooked lobster' coloured people in Poser and my Displacement and Normal
maps weren't strong enough. It's smooth sailing once you know these quirks, and if you
can correct the paint in Photoshop, it's even better. I found it very rewarding to paint in
Zbrush and I hope to get back to my character skins. There is lots I like about them, but
even more about them I know I can do better.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this project of yours get finished and hit the stores.
The options you include and the way you set up the material zones make your products
really fun to experiment with!!

Thanks Kat.. yeah it takes a few attempts, although I paint my normal maps in zbrush I produce them all in gimp, its so quick to do and I seem to get better results but this means I end up painting a figure 4 times, one for textures, one for emission, one for opacitys for geo shells then the normal... But all barring the texture maps are just grey black and white so doesn't take to long. Im not sure whether to give her another geo shell though, at present these are all supplied textures maps so you can only use the presets to alter colours, although you can adjust the simpler versions by altering base colours. Trouble is I find render times shoot up when applying more than one shell. I guess I can give the option, that way users can create their own colour panels if they want...

No problem, Dave. Yeah, it does take a few attempts to pick up on Zbrush's colour quirks but then
you're good to go. I've been away from Zbrush for so long with painting that I'm going to have to
start from scratch with my skin maps. It might seem crazy to paint your figure so many times, but I
had three different versions I was working on for the different elements. It makes it easier to go
back a stage without overwriting the elements you want to keep when you're painting in different
passes, rather than trying to tackle everything at once.
If it isn't too much work for you to create a second shell, I think it would be a good idea to include it
so people have the option. Personally, I don't care about render times when I'm getting the result
I know I want, without needing to do extensive work in Photoshop, but I guess for the average user
they want the render done as quickly as possible.

Beautiful texture work there Dave. I love the contrast of the distressed metal and gleaming panels.
I go away for a few days and come back to some new shiney's...she's looking fantastic!

thank you Buddy.. yeah i think she just needed options to break the suit apart a bit...she has quite a few options now from squeaky clean straight out the box to left out in the elements after seeing some action..

Thanks Debbie... Lot of painting and material testing on this one, tons of renders... But she's getting there..
