Description
The Reest is a small river (used to be larger in the past) on de border of the Dutch provinces Drenthe and Overijssel, near where I live. The sheep on the painting are Drenthe Heath Sheep (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drenthe_… ), a very old breed of sheep that's currently still being used for vegetation management in Drenthe.

I chose for this subject because the painting club I'm attending has an exhibition at the end of this year, with the local history as its theme. During the painting process I discovered the value of nature sponge for trees, you can get pretty nice textures when soaking up paint with nature sponge. It took quite some time to finish this painting, because it's pretty large.

My next painting will also be for the exposition and will feature some local "sages" or folk tales.
