Description So this is supposed to be some kind of strange sea animal living in the greatest depths of the oceans and hunting in dark, cold waters. It's like a hybrid of a jellyfish, an octapus and the Vampire squid.

The spiky ball on the lower right corner of the image is supposed to be a Puffy fish, which has already deployed his defence mechanism...

wow, that's a great artwork... really feel the creepy sensational when you're deep down the ocean and met some couple of strange animals you've never seen. But still, sharks are the worst nightmare for me

It's the perfect square too that hints at it. Very original though! I love the girl's digital painting too. Great tablet work!

Many thanks!! I don't know if you are a pro designer or not, but your 3d designs certainly look like a pro's work. They are awesome!! Btw, which 3d designing program do you use?

Thank you! It's more than flattering to hear that. i wouldnt say im a pro but i have been doing 3d or mainly CAD, professionally for about 7 years. I do CAD in Rhinoceros which has an incredibly short learning curve. I would say a dedicated month and you can do some cool looking stuff too.

The rendering is done either in Cinema4D or HyperShot. The former is much more robust and capable as far as texturing, lighting, rendering & animation. HyperShot is a very expensive and fairly tiny program. It's power and value lies in the "Real Time Rendering" it provides but it also has some nice preset environments and shaders. Most of my robot's were rendered in HyperShot cuz of strict deadlines.

Cinema4D is also really nice with the ease of use and learning curve while providing very powerful industry standard 3D tools and incredibly fast rendering system.

Hope it helps

Thank you so much for all these informations!! They are more than helpful!! I have dealt with 3d design a few times in the past and I have heard of programs such as Rhinoceros, 3ds max or zbrush, but I didn't know which one would be better for me or which one is better in general...

Now with all the data that you provided me, at least I have a clue from where to start! Once again: a big thanks!

Sure Thing. Each program has it's strengths. ZBrush is for sculpting. Rhino is more for mechanical & Some organic modeling. etc.. good luck .

My first thought when I saw this was "vampire squid?" Dumb marine bio project...

Love the soft blend of colors you did on the mollusk thing (and the pufferfish is so cute!) gives the scene a nice feeling of ambience...

DavidHakobian In reply to Sleyf [2010-10-30 13:29:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it came out cute-looking haha...The squid thing was the first thing I drew and I spent more time on that, than the rest of the picture, so I'm really glad that you find it realistic-looking! Btw, is that a puffer fish you have for avatar?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sleyf In reply to DavidHakobian [2010-10-31 09:31:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it does look very realistic, you know how deep sea creatures have that sort of translucent sheen to them but also look velvettey, you got that right and if anyone looked at this from afar they could think it was a photo...
Yeah it is!
