Description
This is my latest commission, I spent about 30 hours on it total since last Friday. I enjoyed painting every minute of it. It got me out of a rut that I was in. I haven't touched watercolors in a few months so I came back with a fervor! I hope you guys like it. Thanks for looking.Story forthcoming. Done in watercolors, on Arches Hot Press paper.

You're welcome Dave.
Also thanks for letting everyone know about the ebay thieves.
I haven't checked-afraid to. I have not watermarked anything that I have done.

Yeah, I deal with ebay more often than I like. However, if you ever find your work on ebay, all you have to do is file a complaint (which is very annoying and tedious) and then you get into their VERO program which makes it a lot easier to get items removed. The last item I got removed took me a few hours (only because of response time)
I never watermark anything either

You know Dave, it is a shame, but maybe you should.

eh, I have the philosophy that once it's on the internet, it's on there forever. My other work, besides the doctor who hasn't really been affected. Eventually I might though, it couldn't hurt.

I like how you handled the watercolor. Very nice. This is all transparent wc's? Do you also use gouache?
Good job,indeed.

Thank you It's all watercolor except minor touches of gold acrylic (which was poorly picked up in the scan
), and acrylic gesso which I use like gouache for fixes and highlights

OMG...Dave...this is beautiful work! I love the gold and blue colours on the dragon and all the intricate details on the gypsy caravan...you even painted all teh individual wood beams I also love the 'tiffany' style stained glass in the door way...WOW!
I was expecting you to take much longer...

haha, thank you Joanna I really wanted to put as much detail in as possible. Painting the Caravan was my favorite part
It was just something completely different. I wish the gold was picked up more in the scan, it really shines in person
Thank you for your unending support Joanna! You are an inspiration!

Did you use gold leaf or gold watercolour?!. unfortunately, amy enhancements one uses, whether iridescent medium( which I love) or golden and silver paints do not show up in scans...I love liquid gold leaf...but in scans the colour just looks muddy...arrrgh you can never win. YOU have to submit a photo with the image held to the light in acertain way...so we can see the effects...if you did indeed use golden leaf or paint! :-D

DavidHoffrichter In reply to JoannaBromley [2011-11-09 16:52:38 +0000 UTC]
I used gold acrylic but it never shows up in the scan. If you look at it in person, it really shines I tried silver liquid and it wasn't for me, maybe gold would be better. Silver just didn't show up great.
That would be a good idea actually!

Yes...I found that liquid leaf is always flat and muddy in scans...such a shame, just like my pearlescent medium...really makes my stuff shimmer lovely, but on scan it can look greyish and grainy...For Etsy..I would have to take a photo so people can see teh difference!

DavidHoffrichter In reply to JoannaBromley [2011-11-11 01:52:50 +0000 UTC]
They need to come out with ways to get the shimmer in a scan. It really takes away from the overall look when you have a beautiful gold leaf and it looks muddy brown
