Description

8630 is an operational steam locomotive at the Kyoto Train Museum where she runs passengers very slowly up and down a 1 km length of track. She is a Class 8620 2-6-0 engine built in 1914, same class as the SL Hitoyoshi, though that one is considered to be the oldest operating engine in Japan because it takes passengers to destinations on a regular train line. 8630 was made an important cultural asset at the age of 102 in 2016. The 8620s were Japan's first domestically mass-produced engines designed for passenger service.
