Description Xinthar was a great wizard who served his ancient kingdom well. But as age weakened the spellcaster, he realised he had so much more to do but not enough years in which to do it.

Like many morally challenged wizards, his quest for longevity led him to the dark necromantic rites of lichdom. And alone in his tower the undead wizard again toiled away in his studies of immortality.

Then after hundreds of years and many kings later, even magic could only sustain Xinthar for so long and he knew eventually his decrepid body would crumble, leaving a pathetic screaming skull.

So Xinthar constructed a new body by piecing together a mighty iron golem body to replace his frail undead one. And on crumbling into the deadly form of a demilich, the golem, mentally linked to the creature, placed the screaming skull into its new home.

Artist's note. So mix a demilich with an iron golem and you have Xinthar. Both DnD monsters are deadly by themself, combined, you would want a high level group to take on this bad boy.

It didn't have a name when I painted it - I was thinking kusari-gama and just a chain...

Yeah but that sword can't be a Kusari-gama.
the kusari-gama is a tiny shyte.

Scythe. Lol. Yeah, I think I added the chain just for an additional visual.

If you want to keep it like in the manual, find a gryspyke and add the morning star head at the end. If not....well, just keep it like this.

Kind of like an Iron Lich from the Iron Kingdoms monster manual, right?

I don't have that sorry. A friend of mine ran an adventure with that creature around 1990. Looong before Iron Kingdoms. But not surprising that others have come up with a similar creature.

Shinobi's right. I'm his DM and I created that for a module some 20 years ago. I think the concept is slightly different as the IK one is just a Lich in Steam Powered Armour while this is a Demi-Lich (first introduced in the mega death module Tomb of Horrors)
