Description
2017 comments from self: sorry I used such a hard-to-read font, and sorry about how messy my handwriting is xD I didn't expect this tutorial to get so much use! It's fairly short, because really the only thing I do is... not use lineart xD But yeah, hope this tutorial is helpful in some way o:
Everything shown here was done in Photoshop.
Fun fact: I actually can't draw lineart on computers for beans. Like I actually can't do it. I draw lineless because I like how it looks, and because lineart is just too hard for me :'D
Simple shading tutorial, and yoshi drawing:
This technique is used in almost all of my "fancier" drawings/paintings.... some that I am asked about most often:
Yep, same technique for fleshing out my images as used in this tutorial

Is it okay to use the binary pen(the pixel pen)? Or does it ruin the lineless art somehow?(I use ibisPaint, and it's kinda hard for me to use the magic brush to select blobs that aren't pixelly)

You can do lineless with any kind of tool! I'd suggest maybe trying to stick to the same types of tools throughout the process (so if you use binary pixel pen for color, use it for shading as well etc).

When coloring, do I have to make a layer for each color?
I mean, a layer for skin, another for hair, etc

I usually do, at least initially, so if I mess something up or want to change something it's easy to fix. ^^

ok so the sketch is one layer and then when you start 'blocking' it with
color, that's also a layer too right ??

Yes! The more layers the merrier :')

Where do you draw?
For example, in Medibang, you just gotta adjust the correction option. In level 19, the lines become smoother~

I draw in SAI but it's not the stabilizer.. my tablet works fine on my computer, but not on my laptop somehow

Strange, maybe it's a tablet configuration gone wrong?

This is so awesome! Thank you so much for making this!
I'm definitely going to try this out sometime in the future. Alternatively, my wife threw me an idea when I was whining about how chunky and fugly everything looks when I try this. She said I should draw the lineart for each color like I normally do, just do it in the same color as the fill and put them both on the same layer. It's a little bit of a workaround, and not really a proper fix to the "my hand isn't steady enough for this!" problem, but it's a possibility.
I can't wait to give this a shot. There's going to be a torrent of pony art on my page. ^___^ Thank you again, you're the best!!!

First thing I thought of was my picture of Zyrathus. I did it all with no lineart and then when I finished the coloring, I put in the lineart at the end x.x lol

So useful and interesting! Thanks for posting! Your methods are a lot like mine except I still use lines, floodfill, and color-replace. ...And then I do other stuff, but yeah, getting the color bases down... just like that! Awesome! Your way is quicker, lol.

I don't think I can do this. It's too hard for me.
