Description
Ok so I'm not happy with this at all. But its for a grade and it needs to be done so I'm putting my personal feelings aside and just calling it done.Tablet decided to go bazerk on me near the end, engaging everything it swept over (i.e. brush that never stops brushing, moving across the layer pannel ment my tablet either a. dragging it along with it, or b. clicking and rearranging all my layers >< needless to say i was a little more than close to snapping the stupid thing in half. BUT I AM VICTORIOUS!!! with the minor exception that my coloring job is a load of crap.
Speaking of the colors I do not now if I like them or not, I wanted to do my hooded coloration but it proved WAY to difficult to transfer over in the exact spot in the exact way over and over and over again o_o so I simplified him with some new brown rat markings.
And yes i re-inked/colored some fender sketches, I wanted to make all new ones but as the thing is due tomorrow and my tablet is driving me crazy i don't think thats going to happen.
Really would have thought I'd of liked Character development class, but the class seems WAY more geared for human drawers and didn't really do crap for me in actually helping me to develop my characters. I was actually going to do characters of my pet rats but even after months of "development" ie having a bunch of ppl that can't draw rats attempt to draw my character i still had nothing on them besides they were my rats ... so last minute decided to change it to fender since HE actually had some character. SDSDFSDFSDFSDFSDFSF Ranting sorry i need to stop now.

what program do you used here for the lining?
it's rather small, I can't say, but have to say it's quite hard with photoshop and such sometimes
was it vectorial for some?

I really love how detailed your character is. The shading on the moods and the charater design are really eye catching, and I love how you took the time to make several pictures of him in a turning animation. :3

I LOVE that turn around. God, how I hate doing those. I can never manage to make the character look consistent in those things, and you have done it marvelously. That middle coloured pose at the top made me smile, too. Like he's stopping mid-groom as he realizes the viewer is there. "Oh... uh, hi."

What really helped doing the turn around was on photoshop you could use this sort of pull down ruler and place it any where on the canvas and as many as you want. I lost count of how many I used but it must have been close to the 40s if not 50s. It was really useful with matching up the height location of each feature.
And yes I've been wanting to color that sketch since I made it, and it seemed to fit his personality well enough I just couldn't resist. It was drawn from watching one of my rats, and I'm pretty sure if he could tak he would have said your quote X] Either that or "OH your looking at me that means you'll pet me right? Maybe if I get closer to the cadge door."

I think it looks great. It shows every detail how looks like, how his emotions is shown and the anatomic of the character.
If every character sheet would look like this it would be awesome!

this is awsome! I was wondering if you could mabe make a rat tutorial? I would like to learn to draw rats, but my two pet rats never hold still long enough to get a good view of them

I can try, but really the best way I can describe them are squishy oblong balls of water weight and fluff. For one of my development posts I'll try to explain some of my findings from drawing them.

nice character sheet, hes a rat with no tail? what happened to it D:
My only critique would be that the semi frontal/side view in the turn around seems a little skinny, from looking at the side profile image I'd recommend pushing out the stomach a bit and lowering the 'fattest points' a little more into the thigh area

DawnFrost In reply to thesilvermist [2012-04-03 21:11:18 +0000 UTC]
He's a manx rat meaning born with no tail [link] Did it partly to add character and partly b/c of sheer laziness and not wanting to have to animate his tail

ah cool didn't even now there was such a thing as naturally tailless rat, yeah i can see animating one being an added pain

I still love the character design here. I actually haven't seen a ref for a rat character before so caught me off guard but love it. I know we are our worst critiques but I like it very much none the less.

He's got some serious upper body strength if he's able to hold himself up while dangling from one arm like that 0_0 (picture in the upper left) He looks like he is going to be an adorable character

DawnFrost In reply to L-Young [2012-04-03 21:27:59 +0000 UTC]
I didn't draw it cause I wanted to show the under side of his feet, but I also imagined his feet clinging onto some sort of pipe, so its not all upper body. Still a fair amount, but not that amazingingly so. He's not like those freaking awesome gymnast that can defy gravity with their skills.

Aww he is just SO cute. I love rats, I really, really do c:
May I ask why it is that you're not too pleased with it, besides your brush not helping you out?
Is it the colors or the way it was drawn or what?

The quality of the lines and coloring for the top pictures aren't great. If you look there are tiny lines going every where from my tablet going nuts, and the turn around is extremely sketchy and I would have liked to at least had the time to shade or color it in. The colors them self though I like just doesn't match my image of this character and I wanted more time to mess with them. I don't feel like the "style" of this character has improved or even changed since when i first started drawing him for the class, if anything I lost some of the character i had built up from sketches i had done in my free time and turned him more into my generic rat style. And just a lot of other nit picky things. I'm also just feeling very angsty about that class and it just not helping me. I was expecting the teacher to go in and teach us how to do each of the expressions and what makes a smile a smile, but instead he's just sort of thrown us to the wolves and said just draw something that would match your character. Honestly if I hadn't spent so much time with expressions for my comic i feel like I would epicly fail this class with their being no real instruction ...

Well, don't be too hard on yourself. Its great as well as has the little nit-picky things that you told me. And jeez, sounds like a hard class. But i'm sure you'll do fine.

Have you tried to re-install the drivers? I had a similar problem that was fixed by going back to a previous version wit the tablet drivers.
But awesome character. His butt is so fluffy

Like uninstaling and reinstalling the tablet? I would try that but the disc is on the other side of my Country ={ I'm going to call my parents about the problem and ask if since its for school and I've had to buy my scanner (which I wasn't able to even bring with me since it weighs a ton) and my last two tablets if they can by me a new one. Though if they refuse then I'll def ask if they can send me the discs thanks for the tip

No problem.
What tablet do you have? There is a chance that there is a copy of the drivers on the website. I know wacom has the drivers and previous version of the drovers on their website, free to download.

Well I didn't know that they have realised Intous5 but I'm using an intous4 and I have no problems with it, but really it goes down to personal preference. The intous4 maybe a bit cheaper with the intous5 coming

You seem to have captured the emotions very well, an artists worse credit is themselfs .^+^ The one with the weight looks like its legs shouldn't be their or he would trip after words like the weight on the legs his leg looks ot me like it should be more over a little bit so that its on the ground. Thats the only thing I saw. ^_^
