Description
This is slightly more morbid than the other ref collection ... since the bird is dead... I DIDN'T KILL IT I PROMISEMy Aunt found it in the yard dead - we think it flew into a tree or something sine it didn't have any bite injuries from the two dogs we have.
Any way immediately thought of taking pictures of it with my phone to use as future references, along with drawing practice as a friend and I sat around for a bit sketching it before disposing it.
Thought maybe you guys could get some use out of the pictures as well so I put them together.
Sorry if anyone is offended by my opportunistic nature o-o but at least now he can in a sense live on forever in my sketch book
ADDED COMMENT
Wow ... I guess I know now how to get you all to comment, just start posting dead things lol XD no but seriously thank you for the comments and the many page views. And if any of you remember it I'd love to see any pictures made that the ref was used. =] Its a good feeling to know and see that you've helped provided something useful to other people.

Ah, poor bird! But I understand the taking the oppourtunity. It would be a shame to have wasted it.
You didn't, by chance, get one of the poor thing from the side with his wings spread, did you? I'm trying to draw a... quaital dragon? I don't know how to spell it. Anyway, it's a small, feathered, Aztec dragon. Trying to get it in that pose, but it's not quite working ut and haven't come across any good references.

The name you're looking for is quetzal-dragon(Ket-sel) from the mountain bird 'quetzal' which was the source of their shape shifting god called quetzalcoatl...if you need to know anything else about it, I would be more than happy to help.

Yeah, they're bad ones. Around where I live, it's mostly the sharks, snakes and spiders you have to worry about though. Jellies and crocs are further north (most of the time).

I see, our list isn't too different, though I could add Alligators and occasionally bears to our list.
Totally random question, I've heard rumors that Australians see kangaroos as rats/pests, and in some cases, have no problem killing and eating them, any truth to that?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
tigerwolves In reply to Gaara2112 [2011-07-01 06:18:23 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, there's way way too many grey kangaroos. We don't see them as rats, there's simply too many of them. Roo hunting's used to be forbidden, but I think the ban's been lifted for a while to try and lessen their numbers to a safer level. Reds are endangered but greys are overpopulated (biodiversity's very important). Everyone loves them, they're not disliked like rats or anything, but a lot of people think number management is necessary. They're everywhere, I've even seen a couple just down the street a few times, but they won't go too far from natural places.
Yeah, some people eat roo meat, but it's not anywhere near as common as beef or pork or any of the standard meats. It's actually not too bad, but it's a bit too strong for me.

Gaara2112 In reply to tigerwolves [2011-07-05 16:27:59 +0000 UTC]
Oh, well that makes sense. do you know if there are "seasons" for hunting them, or is it just open until they think the numbers have been reduced to manageable levels? But that reminds me of the issues England is having Now that our Grey Squirrels have invaded, they are more aggressive than their English, red cousins, and it's putting them in danger of extinction. Well now i know the truth about them. Thanks.
It's probably similar to our deer meat which is also stronger-tasting than beef.

tigerwolves In reply to Gaara2112 [2011-07-06 06:36:22 +0000 UTC]
I'm not too sure, they don't migrate or anything so seasons aren't really necessary. There's a 'quota' for the number of kangaroos allowed to be killed each year for commercial gain (meat, fur, whatever) and they have to be killed humanely with a shot to the head, but a lot of roo bodies show that this isn't always abided by, even though it's the law.
We don't have squirrels here, I've never seen one. ;D
Venison isn't all too common here, but we have it. I think we have deer farms and a few feral deer too, but not many.
We have sooo many problems with our wildlife. ;-; Don't even get me started on cane toads.

well i meant for purpose of the mating seasons and such. well they can always just say that the bullet "curved" and hit them elsewhere.
they look kind of like a kangaroo mixed with a rat, mouse, or raccoon, with a fluffy tail thrown in for "cuteness".
i'm sure we have more problems here than i realize, but hunting does seem to seem some numbers in check.

I wouldn't want to b used liek that, evn if i were a bird. Anyway, you're an artist, your work is very demanding, but do realize the consequences that come with such demands. Use a condom...LOL!

If you're going to troll, at least make your sentence comprehensible and use proper grammar. This is a learning process, where do you think doctors get better? doing autopsies on stuffed animals? This is how an artists improves one skills. Life drawing. Sad, yes, but its not meant to be offensive in any way, shape or form, and he/she makes it clear and apologizes if it did.
