Description
This is slightly more morbid than the other ref collection ... since the bird is dead... I DIDN'T KILL IT I PROMISEMy Aunt found it in the yard dead - we think it flew into a tree or something sine it didn't have any bite injuries from the two dogs we have.
Any way immediately thought of taking pictures of it with my phone to use as future references, along with drawing practice as a friend and I sat around for a bit sketching it before disposing it.
Thought maybe you guys could get some use out of the pictures as well so I put them together.
Sorry if anyone is offended by my opportunistic nature o-o but at least now he can in a sense live on forever in my sketch book
ADDED COMMENT
Wow ... I guess I know now how to get you all to comment, just start posting dead things lol XD no but seriously thank you for the comments and the many page views. And if any of you remember it I'd love to see any pictures made that the ref was used. =] Its a good feeling to know and see that you've helped provided something useful to other people.

You took the beauty of death and changed it so you and other beings can use the moment to create future art. Brilliant.

This is actually how most artists used to study for reference... you didn't kill it and this gives this bird a way to exist in a form well into the future. Beautiful cardinal though, bright bright boy.

wow, this is great. and a cardinal nonetheless!
call me strange, but it would've been great to preserve the wings off this guys for reference for yourself; i did the same with a young robin i found on the side of the road, and it worked out very well (:

This was EXTREMELY useful. I did some sketches, and they're extremely revealing as to the bird's anatomy.

We find both Cardinals and Blue Jays all the time in my backyard because they fly into the window, stun themselves, and then fall to the ground where the dogs get them. You know.....they should be using these birds on the Windex commercials instead of the crows XD

Even if s/he hadn't found it, it wouldn't have been buried. It would have been eaten, or decomposed. Heck, it would be eaten even if it WAS buried. So what constitutes burying it as "resting in peace"?

Being dead aside, he looks pretty rough around the edges so it could very well have been old age or illness. Terrible thing, seeing a bird dead on the ground and not flying, but it's hard not to take the opportunity to get some references up close. At least it was done respectfully. Things like this are invaluable.

Judging from the bald spots on its body, I'd guess it either died of old age or sickness, my old budgies lost their feathers due to old age before they popped their clogs.
But apart from the bald patches, it looks is very neat condiction...why not clean it then take it to a taxidermist and get it stuffed? Since it'd be a shame to waste such a beautiful bird even in its death.
