I was recently commissioned to do the portrait of someone's fursona. Unfortunately, they didn't like my first draft and requested some changes. Now, the changes were all fairly trivial, but there were a lot of them and I felt that if I would have tried to modify the sketch I had, I'd probably just end up ruining it. Instead, I decided to start over from the beginning.

However, I personally liked the sketch so much that I didn't want to waste it. So instead of just tossing it in the bin, I decided to turn it into a piece of art for myself. I removed some features, added a few others, and managed to turn it into a wolf!

And now that it's finished, man, I am so happy I kept the sketch! This turned out beautifully! I think this is the best wolf drawing I've ever done - I'd love to work this style into my comic somehow. The lineart turned out nice too - it's got a few kinks here and there and I had to move some things around throughout to make proportions fit (thanks for the feedback NinjaTertel ), but overall, it's varied, smooth and crisp. The shading turned out well too. I'm still a bit shaky when it comes to shading, but I think I pulled off something that doesn't look too hideous or odd. There's even a few places where I have two-tier shading going on.

One of the things I'm most happy with is the eyes. Eyes are SO important. They bring the character to life if done right, and I feel like I got 'em this time!

Finally, I want to mention Sorakirbys art. He wasn't involved in this drawing in any way, but I think his art style is really cool, and I looked at a lot of his stuff for inspiration and reference, so he should be named.
