I'm always trying to improve as an artist, and as I do, I keep looking back with dissatisfaction at the stuff I've done. I think that's pretty natural as you attempt to practice and improve yourself. Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of every step I take as an artist, and I am proud of my drawings. However, when I look back, I see all the things that I could do better - all the things which, back then, really was pushing me to my limits, but today I feel isn't quite good enough.

That's why I keep making new versions of Sabre - see it as the yard stick by which I measure my skills.

So this time, I made him less bulky, and I decided it was time to give him some clothes, including a nice leather jacket designed by yours truly and inspired by Big Boss' jacket from Metal Gear Solid V.
Technically, I've done a few things differently. First, I've gradiant-colored him instead of flat coloring. I noticed that a lot of my favorite artists do that, and it adds a bit of depth to the art. Secondly, after a week of watching Bob Ross' Joy of Painting marathon over on twitch, I felt an urge to give digital painting a whirl, and I really think it paid off. I've been wanting to draw a nice shiny leather jacket for YEARS and I could never get the lighting right before. woo hoo!
