Description [link]

The funny thing is the fact that the original version of this pic was done in November '08, and it was just me testing how far the Krystal model's legs could go outwards before suffering any mesh deforming issues.

The pose ended up looking so nice that I threw clothes on her, added a quick background, and fired off a render. Maybe it was the blatant cleavage exposure, but it seemed to go over rather well with the viewers.

When going back to my old renders, I realized that one thing that really could make the picture look better.... were some damned reflections. Surprising, right? I throw 'em on most anything nowadays.

Sooooo yeah, I remade the pic from scratch, put different hair on Krystal, and there you have it!

Certainly made her limber, at least.

Could she do that while Dressed as Sam Fisher?

Cuse it'd really fit.

I could probably do about 3/4 of the way down... but I certainly wouldn't feel good afterwards.

I know that I've certainly tried on occasion, out of necessity (being a goalie in hockey)..

Hahaha wow, nice... I know, I mean I'm mine of flexible too, but this just rubber-like hahahaha, I don't really think anything less than a well-trained gymnast could make it out this one.

It's the hair that comes with the Miki 2 model, actually. :>

I chose it because it still really looked like Krystal's regular hair, but just more realistic. :>

ScorpDK [2011-07-10 21:26:11 +0000 UTC]

make Krystal's skin reflective. See how it ends up
I think i added slight reflections to a "oiled" bodyskin once, took quite a bit longer to render, but you could see how the proximity of the character's hand near a oiled shoulder made a difference...

But yeah, this looks pretty damn awesome. Not minding the hairstyle, either XD

Daymond42 In reply to ScorpDK [2011-07-10 22:22:49 +0000 UTC]

Now.. when you say reflective, I'm assuming you mean a very low value on the reflect node, like 0.1 or so?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ScorpDK In reply to Daymond42 [2011-07-13 19:58:36 +0000 UTC]

yeah, with a raytrace reflection material connected into it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daymond42 In reply to ScorpDK [2011-07-13 20:34:06 +0000 UTC]

I'll give that a shot sometime.. I usually just use the "Add Reflection" button in the Advanced tab of the Material Room, and just tweak the resulting nodes

I've definitely noticed an improvement in the renders, especially starting around the time you got a new machine, if I recall correctly.
The floor reflections look incredible, by the way. The way the reflections form on the individual panels really add to the image.
Also, if you don't mind me asking, is that Krystal's original hair texture on a different mesh? Just curious, as I've never been adventurous enough to try transplanting the textures onto different hair models.
Excellent render, though. Good job!

Daymond42 In reply to Chaokaze [2011-07-09 02:26:39 +0000 UTC]

The new computer allowed me to do "test renders" at a higher quality than the final renders from the old computer, due to the much reduced render time..

The hair Krystal is wearing in this picture is actually the default hair for the Miki 2 model. I took the blonde hair texture, and started messing with the diffuse color in the Material Room.

Chaokaze In reply to Daymond42 [2011-07-09 02:45:06 +0000 UTC]

Heh, I know what that's like. The laptop I got from the animation school I go to renders a LOT faster than the old desktop I was using, but sure enough, I've put so much into my scene now that it still renders at a crawl-like speed. (I have this massive sci-fi/military animation I'm working on, and let's just say that without a render farm, I'd be rendering out frames of animation for at least 3 weeks straight. There's about 20-odd camera passes, and seeing as I need to render out a default pass and an ambient occlusion pass, that's technically 40 passes. FUN. )

Oh, so that's the default hair texture for that particular hair mesh? Wow, I'm even more impressed now. You have a pretty spot-on match for Krystal's actual hair. Hopefully I'll be able to achieve the same effect whenever I feel like using a different hair mesh.

Daymond42 In reply to Chaokaze [2011-07-09 02:50:39 +0000 UTC]

The hair color matching consisted of me fucking around with different shades of blue, and constantly doing a spot render of an area of the hair, against a part of her fur.

Lighting, lighting, and more lighting. It's what I try to stress on other people who do 3d renders, because it can make or break an image
