If I remembered correctly, each of the Lantern Batteries contains a special Life form or Entities that lives with in the batteries/the 7 spectrum elements...
But that still doesn't explain on where the hell these entities came or originated from...

I think the snake represents how pythons and anacondas love to eat so much food at one time (eating food 3 times the size of their own head in 1 gulp), showing the great gluttony the orange light gives.
